Are servers still up for COD1?
was thinking of installing and trying it out again

Servers are working well , some have full bot support in them but the majority still have a good player community still going.

Ah, the horrible old days of players not only split on content, but split between patches, lol. So what is this CoD (before I consider installing it)? 1.5 for teh steam version?

steam version is 1.4. so u either downgrade to 1.1 (many active players) or upgrade to 1.5 ( idk how many playersarer there) but at 1.1 there are server with server admins who partrol the servers to ban cheaters and hackers.
