I've tried everything -- I don't believe this great old game will run on systems newer than Vista. Steam should not be selling a game that can't be opened!

Yup its the os ,its a 10 year old game and untill a fix comes out wont play on windows 8.

https://www.virtualbox.org/ install windows xp and play call of duty on that it should work

Or just rightclick the CoDMP shortcut, select properties and in the Target line, put +set cl_motd 0

when i install windows xp will my computer no longer be windows 8? i'm a noob and playing on a family pc so i dont want to mess it up
