So I've been trying to play Ikaruga and it's not working. I keep getting the "Fatal error: failed to init sound device"

Any solution?

Hello,

I ran into the "Failed to init sound device" error with Ikaruga on my system. As usual, disabling audio in the boot.txt file fixes things, but that's less than optimal.

However, turning off ShadowPlay got it working with sound on my system. This post from the "Game will not launch" thread was the clue to trying it.

Hope this helps someone else.
have you installed directx 9? what're your pc specs?

my spec are:
i7 4790
GTX970
Win10
Realtek audio

I have tried disabling Shadowplay and the game continues without work

Thanks to help me

PD: sorry for my english level

I have the same problem too

I have the same problem too. I saw that there are some DirectX Jun2010 distrib files in the install folder. I saw a Jun2010_XAudio_x64.cab file. I tried to install with an admin cmd prompt with the dism command, it says file not found, even when I coped the file on c:\ and renamed it. Also downloaded these distrib files from Microsoft directly, same issue.

Seriously it totally sucks.

Ikaruga. I wish I could play it, but no :((

Hopefully in my case, it was the demo I tested before purchase.

But I hope devs will do somthing one day, plz fix it devs if you read us.

EDIT: and btw there is a config file in the folder. I was able to modify it to disable audio and play the game, but with no audio so.

EDIT2: and of course the distib folder comes with a setup.exe file. In my case I installed it and it didn't fix.

I found that if you revise the no_audio to 1 in boot.txt, the game would be launched without any sound.Anyhow, you could enjoy it.

Try opening command prompt and executing these commands:
net stop audiosrv
then
net start audiosrv
I've had this issue before and this seems to work for me. You may have to exit Steam first, run the commands, then relaunch Steam.

TY bsod, I did that, but this didn't fix in my case :calm_creep:

(just for other people who try this, it needs cmd prompt in admin mode: press windows key, type cmd, right click the cmd icon then execute as admin)

No need to uninstall GFE you only need disable the overlay and the game will launch.

Can't leave a review. We need to warn others of this broken title, steam won't refund after purchase either :( this is my review, can't post a real one can't get 5 min in game because it will not run.

Game does not RUN tried windows 7 1080 & windows 10 1070

Did all online stuff ( overlays , remove the steam extra file ), can't get past sound crash using Realtek & Creative cards. Don't know how all these people are playing? GOOGLE search shows many with this issue. If anyone can send to link on getting this to run ( that works ) would be happy :)

Never write reviews but run away from this game fast, waste of money.

I used to encounter this problem before, I think it had something to do with the nvidia sound driver. I used a 7.1 setup for my PC and I found that switching that to stereo allowed the game to launch. This was an issue I encountered years ago however, now I can play the game with 7.1 on. Hope this helps.

I turned everything off (exit) that had to do with sound enhancement software AKA Nahimix 2 for me.
After has great sound.
