Gemini Rue and Primordia aren't modern-day, but I can highly recommend Primordia anyway (haven't played Gemini Rue).
I'll check out the Blackwell games. I was wondering who that girl was in the bar and why you couldn't talk to her.
but if you just mean any point and click games, from any company and any point in time ever, you cant get any better than the Monkey Island series. you must play that series if you havent. i think you can get the HD updated versions of 1 & 2 on steam, but check out the rest of the series. Curse of Monkey Island is especially good.
the end of this game with the punching and question asking was based on the Insult Swordfighting from MI.
