Blockland was first released as freeware in 2004. Minecraft is from 2009.
I'm getting a bit tired of repeating this, so here's a little PSA.

Blockland was first released as a free game in 2004, and went commercial in 2007. Minecraft didn't come along until 2009.

Additionally, the two games hardly have anything in common from a gameplay standpoint, aside from involving blocky pieces.

Blockland is basically LEGO Gmod; you build a world from scratch with little plastic pieces, toss in some vehicles and weapons, and add game modes like deathmatch, capture the flag, speedkart, etc. It's a pure LEGO-y sandbox, with no pre-existing content or story. Everything you play in Blockland was made by fellow players, and the game is also open to a crapton of mods to take its functionality even further.

Minecraft is... Minecraft.

Two very different things. Now let's all go out and have fun blowing up LEGO cities with tanks and rocket launchers and stuff.

Let's not forget either that Minecraft was inspired by a certain game called INFINIMINER.

The only thing you can really use to compare Blockland, Roblox, and Minecraft with each other is that they're all sandbox games.

Plus, while you do work with blocks in Minecraft, Roblox and Blockland work off of an entirely different system. Minecraft uses voxels.

Funny how many people are trying to compare this to Minecraft. When I first heard of the game I thought it might be similar to Minecraft, but when I saw the trailers and screenshots I knew instantly it wasn't even similar, other than both being open-world sand-boxy-ish games.

In fact, this game reminds me more of ROBLOX than anything else. Use to play alot of ROBLOX when I was younger, visited the site again recently, its gone down the tubes, basically impossible to have any fun without paying money or taking a lot of time. Hopefully this is better than that (and it should be, considering you have to pay to play). Looks interesting, might pick it up a little closer to Christmas.

I really think this needs to be somewhere in the store page or trailer. Everyone will write this off as a Minecraft cash in, even though it has roughly 5 years of seniority over Minecraft

I genuinely think that nobody really thinks Blockland and Minecraft are similar. Just one glance should tell you that Blockland uses more types of blocks than just a cube. And the visual style is completely different too.

tbh they have everything in common from a gameplay standpoint: sandbox. speaking as someone who thinks they both look "neat" I still am not really interested in "playing" either one, because it just seems like work. (Disclaimer: I don't need a game like this for creative expression.)

This is a bold statement to make

If you aren't interested in playing either, how can you make the statement that they have everything in common from a gameplay standpoint? I bought Blockland because it looked like a Minecraft-esque title but upon playing it, they are nothing alike

Minecraft is still better.
