Is there any collecting?

Is there any game mechanic to collect the blocks? Or is it more like the creative mode in Minecraft where you have access to unlimited supply of all types of blocks?

I know this game came before Minecraft. I'm only mentioning Minecraft as a frame of reference because I haven't played this game before.

No collecting blocks in this game! You get them all from the start. You do have an unlimited supply of them, too.

It's pure sandbox-y unlimited building shenanigans, plus vehicles and weapons and deathmatches and capture the flag and kart racing and aerial dogfights and...

You generally have an unlimited supply of bricks, but there are some gamemods (specifically roleplays) that require the player to purchase bricks before playing them.

I might try some roleplay mods. I liked looking at my creations in Minecraft and knowing that I gathered all those materials. But on the other side of that coin, the pure sandbox and unlimited blocks allows for even bigger/better creations. It sounds like you can play this game either way which is cool.

Mods can add support for the collecting thing that you're talking about, but by default, no.

There are very few add-ons where a brick collection/buying mechanics are added. Some city roleplaying servers allow you to build indefinitely but placing each brick costs a small amount of in-game money.

I see what you guys mean now. It's much closer to Gary's Mod than Minecraft, so collecting doesn't make sense. Still cool and easily worth the price.

If anything, the only real collecting is collecting add-ons over the years and finding ones you really enjoy :3

Speaking of collecting... I have never in my five years of playing seen a collect-a-thon server in Blockland nor have I ever heard of one! Collect-a-thons would work really well Blockland in my opinion. I'm genuinely surprised that this hasn't been done before. Someone should do one.
