On a separate note, I can't even get the game to start with DXWnd.
Two threads, one of which I posted, don't have an answer to this:

Try installing the latest ReShade (3.1.1 as of this date) to the game. The hook allows the game to play nice with DxWnd. Adding any effects is unnecessary, but you might want to change the hook's mode to "Performance".
Alternatively, you can install the Vanity Pack 2.0 beta mod, which adds "Alt+Enter" as an option. However, this setting does not save, and the mod hasn't been updated since 2014. Therefore it is stuck in its unstable state, and is known to crash now and again. However, it IS a fun mod, even if it the current intention is just to add windowed mode.
Apologies for the necro.
EDIT: After discovering a new hiccup, I have found out BOTH Vanity Pack AND ReShade are required for DxWnd to work, which I thought from some other tests I did were untrue. But if you want, you can skip DxWnd altogether and just use Vanity Pack's "Alt+Enter" feature. Remember that that method will NOT save the windowed mode. I'm sorry I have no other alternatives.
