Verdun

The next things for Verdun (where do we go from here)
Ok so there is a lot of big things planned for Verdun before years end (immersion mechanics, new map(s), new squads, new weapons, etc.) what do you think there concetrating on first

Immersion:

As far as immersion mechanics goes we still have the suppression mechanic completely unadded. Could use more ambient voices along with more variety of expressions and such.

New Maps:

We still have the western front unfinished in maps as we are still lacking a actual verdun map (besides rdms vaqauios), as well as the champagne region being mentioned for a future map. Though the latest reports seem to suggest The Marne as our next destination (hinted but not confirmed by leo), i hope it is as this would be significant as this would bring about a new gameplay style as this wouldnt be trench warefare, also it would bring about a map that currently isnt on the main menus main battline area that all the other maps are situated on, this would open the game up to big events that were both late and early war that could bring about diverse areas such as towns (Mons), or open fields (Marne as mentioned above), as well as other unexplored areas.

New Squads:

Now obviously we cant add every little participant that fought on the western front as there would simply be too many (especially for entente), but key players and roles are still missing. Once again through various topics of previous discussion i narrowed it down to 4 squads being added in the foreseeable future.

The Belgians which will be countered by German defensive squad.
The Americans which will be countered by German pioneer squad.

An interesting point was brought up recently by a dev suggest the defensive squads might get body armor.

New Weapons:

Obviously these new squads will bring about some new form of weaponary presumably. Some weapons that were mentioned before were as follows:

French: Mle M1892 revolver, Berthier (5 clip modification (1918 or late war) which is rare like mp18, Mousqueton ( 5 clip modification) which i guess was around since late 1917, Rsc 1917 (only reason i mention it as i guess it was under consideration for an assualt squad before they decided on canadians instead of a french squad), some kind of hmg like variant

British: some kind of hmg variant

Canadians: should have the option for like the nco to get webley with bayo and then the weapons specialist should get the ross as last unlock (to show its rarety but still show that it was used in the war)

Germans: G88, c96 (which would seemingly go with pionner squad), flammenwerfer (also pioneer), G98 trench mag modification (should prob be with stross), Luger with modifications (mag and possibly stock) (also prob should be with stross), a lmg like variant

Now one things thats missing thats staring us right in the face are the trench knives which were suppossed to be released last update which obviously didnt. Also it would be apparent that the belgians and americans would add much for new weaponary.

Ok so we have all these daunting things that are still in need to be finished before game release, what do you think will be there first to tackle (basically what do you think is next update). Also devs if you happen to read this feel free to answer any of these questions for clarification exactly what your thinking process is from now till february. Id also like to ask devs how many maps do you have planned for the western front or what exactly is your target range?

I was hoping the physics and mechanics would get a massive realism overhaul. Give it more realistic and smoother feel, as opposed to the clumsy arcade feel it's got right now. After that more content can be added.

I like a lot of your ideas but several of them have been adressed and debuffed already by the moderators and devs like the trench mag and body armor but who knows, the only way I can see the more oddball items like that going in is as a very high level unlock and having it be very limited but I still doubt it. One thing I really wish the devs would do to in regards to maps is do what RO2 did. Release the map making tools if possible and have the community build some fun maps and let the devs decide what to include. Some of the most enjoyable maps in RO2 are custom maps and it really helps add to content since only a handful were actualy made by Tripwire. Anyway great thread, I hope it grows :)

u know i said the exact same thing about the community maps idea, but the devs dont seem to see eye to eye with me and you on that idea, idk why not as thats only a win-win if added, would take some work though, but i think we would see positive results

I really want to see the bolt actions get slower or manual. I really dont want there to be semi auto rifles that sounds kindof lame plus since the unlocks are so fast there is now way to make them rare like they were in the war.

yeah i agree, im ok if lets say you upgrade from a luger to a luger with a shovel, but in no way should it be just as quick as going from like a luger to a mp18, they need to make some weapons harder to get
El chauffeur Nov 10, 2014 @ 9:32pm
have weapon distrubtion where there can only be a percent chance you get teh weapon

To me im hoping they add some more optimization into the games RAM consupsion

A radial command menu for the NCO, to be displayed to the soldiers within his command range (with some preset commands) would be nice.

Tracers for the MG's? Like in in every 5 rounds?

Zoomable minimap with a grid on it, that the NCO can ping and combine with commands from the radial menu (see above)?

Flare gun for the NCO for night combat, to illuminate enemy positions or to give attack/ withdraw signals?

Public team speak server, exclusively for Verdun players and dedicated channels for registered squads?

Maybe a training room where new players could learn basics such as aiming and shooting, throwing grenades, using the gas mask, close combat with bayonet and/ or club/ shovel, use of MG's/ sniper scopes and possibly even a NCO training School where one can learn how to use squad commands, plot arty and gas fire etc. A 'Field Depot/ Ersatzbataillon".

Besides building a whole game from the ground up?

A Field Manual where one can read about the game mechanics? Especially details on how personal upgrades work, when weapons and other items are unlocked etc

Great ideas, I'm all for immersion as long as it doesn't ruin the optimisation.

New maps are definitely welcomed, players have talked about something like an open map like the Marne, or a town map, which is possible, my brother and I went to the battlegrounds and found a town or two that were fought over, and perhaps a fort-like map. There are a couple forts on the site of Verdun itself including Fort Douaumont or Fort Vaux. A map I'd love for sure is a Lorraine map or of course an actual Verdun map in honour of Maginot who fought there.

I'm not a fan of adding a ton of new weapons to the game because it's often unnecessary and after their novelty wears off, people will go back to the old guns anyway ie: berthier, mousqueton, G98. One thing I would like though is a 5 shot berthier or mousqueton as long as the only change to the guns that are made is the amount of shots it has.

New squads will be great, as long as they are well-constructed and each role is complimentary to the other to encourage teamwork.

Changing the bolting of rifles is not a good idea, there are other ways of fixing rifle balancing.

What I would like to see is what I've been campaigning all over the forums recently is incentives for teamwork within squads. If that becomes part of the meta game again, it will put the game over the top.

Maps represent regional sectors of the Western Front. Verdun for instance is covered by the Argonne map. (Vosges stands in for the Alsace sector)
Lorraine will likely be the last Western Front map to be made since it was by far the quietest of all sectors.

Maybe adding Vimy Ridge and some tunnels?
springfielf m1903 for americans!
