Cyclonic! Space Hulk: Ascension Edition Announced
Full Control’s grand dream for Space Hulk was to recreate the beloved Games Workshop boardgame. It got off to a rocky start. Patching did a lot for bugs (though can’t change that it doesn’t have that cardboard feel), and today They say it’s a fairly solid adaptation. So having made Space Hulk, Full Control want to make a different Space Hulk.

Today they announced Space Hulk: Ascension Edition, a standalone new version boshing in a load of RPG bits, new stuff, and Ultramarines, who do at least bring Cyclone missile launchers to compensate for being so dull.

Ascension Edition’s main change is whacking in an RPG layer, with squads built of characters who earn XP and level up attributes and skills and whatnot. Hugely massively importantly, Terminators are customisable now, with all sorts of shiny bits to change the look of their armour–tabletop heritage and all that. Also you can rename them, to see your best mate horribly slaughtered. Other new things: combi-weapons, short mini-missions, genestealer variants, and those Ultramarines.

It seems to include all that DLC with the base game, packing 100 missions across Blood Angel, Space Wolves, and Ultramarine campaigns.

Space Hulk: Ascension Edition is due some time between October and the end of the year.

So what about the players that have SH and all the DLC? They have to pay for it again with a brand new game?

we have already planned loyalty discounts for existing owners, so that they get a choice.
Beware this game does not replace Space Hulk “the digital boardgame”. Its a separate more video game approach with different rules and removal of boardgame elements

Going to Gamescom today, so more info will be shared with journalists there . so i guess we have to wait and find out more info .
I am torn between excitement at the prospect and exasperation that Deathwing are still not featured.

That's not bad. Will be watching with interest.

Nice to see a new product out of the box. Sounds great.
But will there be more content for the digital boardgame version? Many players are still waiting for a level editor.

Looking forward to it.

P.S. How's that NECROMUNDA project coming along? ;)

Since when do gene stealers wield swords?

Most biomorphs are compatible with any tyranid, it's just that usually genestealers are meant to infiltrate and as such giant blades fused to their hands would be...impractical. On a space hulk however, there aren't any people to infiltrate with, so if necessary it is possible a tyranid with a blade biomorph could be spawned.

Am enjoying the game so much I'm thrilled to learn of continued development. Will look forward to buying this (particularly if it includes existing DLC...missed the sale apparently damn it).

So the new game is based on Space Hulk, but will not include a mode that is identical to the board game? Seems to me like a better idea would be to have a boardgame mode and combine the two games into one. Somehow I think development on the original boardgame version of Space Hulk just ended. That makes me very sad.

Oh wow, I didn't see that coming. pretty exciting stuff as a 40k fan. Sadly I had my fingers a little singed with space Hulk at launch so will be holding off on this one for a short while before buying.

On a separate note, I would love to play this style of game as Chaos, that would be brilliant.

On another separate note, Ultramarines... The poster boys of 40k... Damn smurfs. :/
