So, what exactly makes other people or yourself continue to play DCUO?
I've been playing DCUO for about a week now, to begin with I was really enjoying it, especially as a fan to the DC genre, however recently I've just not been quite as satisfied while playing. Main reason being because I don't feel I really have anything I want to do nor is there anything worth doing. The missions themselves only really seem to involve doing repetitive activities and more or less it never feels like anything outside of what I've already done before which doesn't make them seem even worth doing, also given by the fact that I'm probably just going to recieve some gear with lower stats than what I already have.

So question is as stated in the title, what do people do to keep themselves playing for so long? I figure there still must be a lot more to the game which I haven't experienced yet.

that would be the end game content such as duos, solos, raids, and alerts, pvp(ledgends cause arena is incredibly unbalanced). but in the end what really keeps me playing is playing a with actually friendly people, which the game kinda has a shortage of.
yes lots and lots to do you saying you have T5 gear? new DLC is coming out that may have T6 gear get both the DPS & your main class gear and the highest pvp rating armor possible that is plenty to do...I also enjoy the game so much i have 4 30's so far and am working on a main now to get every single feat in the game increasing how many skill points you can have it's very possible to have over 100 skill points! The game doesnt end when you hit 30 it starts!

I grew up in a rural area in an age where I was allowed to walk to my friends house a mile away alone when I was 4, or out into the woods miles from supervision with powertools. I grew up playing guitar and piano. But, also by 4 - I loved Superhero cartoons and was a pretty good programmer in BASIC.

By the time I was learning to create sprite on a Commodore 64C when I was 6, I envisioned a day when a game like DCUO might be possible - though never imagined the MMO element then.

The first time I logged in, I had no idea what it was, or that it was coming - I just logged in and was amazed at what it was.

I had an "Oh My God They Built It" moment. I was 34 by then.

My daughter and I love this game. Pros and Cons aside - to little content today has a moral compass built into it the way the superhero genre does. It is good for people.

I think for dcuo, it's not unsual to feel as if the game's fun vaule is over after lv 30. The early endgame content get's repetitive and tedious. Most people dont group up for the early content so you're forced to pug into an alert that most likely has all other players in dps role.

Like other people said, it's fun if you play with a friend or get into a league to help you out. That's how I got to cr 87 the second time i came back to the game in dec. The first time i played is when the game went f2p and i only got up to t2 content before i felt the game didnt offer enough to keep me playing, so i quit.
''They built it'' many years before ''they'' built it, this game rocks, but it sure isn't the 1st of it's kind, nor is there much here that was done in those other games. I like this game a lot, but don't act like it's groundbreaking... it isn't. ☻

I sense a lot of hating here.

Maybe you think I am saying that DC Universe created the MMO genre. To clarify - I am not saying that at all. There have been a TON of MMO's - just none that I found compelling. From MUD's to WoW - I never found it interesting. I'm not into Tolkein so much that the books were not enough and I want to be an elf, or whatever.

Sure, the modern Unreal Engine it is rendered in is beautiful. Yes, it is fascinating to see 70+ years of comic writing get intergrated into a single Universe with very few compromises (for example, Bat Girl and Oracle both exist in the game, but in the comics are the same person at different points of their life/mythos).

This game was a first, though. The DC Comics, with all the literature and iconic superheroes and villians behind it, was merged into an MMO. That was never done before.

Technology-wise - not groundbreaking. Artistically - groundbreaking. The technology behind it existed prior, yes. The technology is needed to facilitate the finished product, yes.

This game is so much better than others like it, even though those games also had similiar themes and the same technology underpinning it. Games like City Of Heroes, and Champions Online existed before DC Universe.

But they didn't have the heroes everyone knows - and the rich 70 years of writing that made it great - integrated into those games. Frankly, they didn't have artists making as much out of the 3D engines as did the SOE design team, as well.

It is the moral content of the DC Universe merged with the technology that I forseen coming since I was a child - that combination - that "they finally built".
So, in terms of gear most of the tier content have prerequisites much more related to PvP and PvE I take it? unfortunately I never really delved into this sort of gameplay.
Then again I never saw much interest in obtaining battle suits to show off (Just looked at the wiki), personally I just came to the personal conclusion that wearing giant mechanical suits of armour wasn't very super hero/villain-ish at all. (With the exception of a few like Ares) obviously it is difficult to keep the balance of a DC universe, and simply another MMO universe, and this is one of those instances where it slips through a lot more as MMO content and it loses its DC immersion. Regardless its clear to me that it simply seemed to be aimed at players who do take it to that next level of an MMO. Hence the legendary requirements.

It isn't that I'm saying its not worth it, however personally I'm just not interested in it as an MMO enough to pay $15 a month for those next level aims. I'm a DC fan and yes I do have certain interest in MMO's, but this level of content seems to be much more aimed at MMO fans than DC fans (In my personal opinion, I know someone will argue with this and I probably won't blame you for it.) That's not saying for what it is as a F2P or premium that it isn't a good game though, it combines two great themes and to be able to actually combine and accumalate all of what is put together and make it work is a real achievement in itself.

But that next level isn't for me I guess.

Also there are probably many things you'll have to correct me on in my previous post, I am still quite uninformed about a lot of the game, can't deny it is very large and has a lot of depth.
Hey Deckchair! You are not completely off at all. The suits are part of the grind, each adding fashion options as well. Personally, I use the suits to boost my stats, but visually, I remain a very small tiny pink blond girl in a top hat.

The suits themselves give you stat boosts. Completed suits give you feats that, in turn, give you more stat boosts as well. You can adopt the visual style with the suit, but all visuals are optional.

The best tank I know in the game is Cosmic War - he is CR98 Ice and is still a free player - but he did have friends and patience to pull it off as a free player. Great guy though.

I'm lifetime Legendary myself. It was $200 as a one time fee - no subscription afterward. They do not offer that since going to the F2P model though.

If you do ever play look me up and say hi!
Hey im just startin dcuo here so feel free 2 add if u need more players thx
The more the merrier!
Well, decided I might as well have a shot at trying to get the deathstroke inspired armour (Mercenary's malice? can't remember the name) he's always been my favourite DC character, so it gives me something to do. (Tier 1 stuff first though, which also means trying to get to level 30 first too :c) I also had a quick go at legends, which I have to say is an interesting twist! already got myself nightwing.

They weren't taking creative liberty with Batgirl and Oracle. Barbara Gordon is the first and most popular Batgirl, but after she became Oracle several others took the name at different times. The Batgirl in this game is Cassandra Cain
