Tiny problem in "Anything to save them" means I can't continue playing the game unless I start over

In the level "Anything to save them", I found a sort of "bugg". After I collected the note and continued through the back door of the cottage, I managed to find a small spot behind a bush that lacked a "floor". So I fell into the bottomless pit and ended up respawning in front of that house, where I started. But since I've already collected the note, I can't use the door to get to the aft area of the level. I've tried to get past all physical barriers to no avail. Do I have to play the game from the beginning in order to continue? Or does someone have a saved game I can use? If I have to restart the game I'm not going to bother.
