leveling up your apartment = combining the cost of heat and rent so you're forced to pay heat

Bragging rights. And the achievement for reaching Class 5, but that's it.

There's one instance where it pays off. When you get the 1000 bucks from EZIC, you upgrade to Class 7. The government will then investigate your extra money and take away all of your savings. You can then downgrade to Class 8 and recover 70 credits. Of course, if you have a bunch of money already saved up - it may be better to just burn the EZIC money.

There's an achievement attached if you get to class 5, but that's it.

I always stuck with the cheapest apartment level. Didn't even know there was an achievement for that, oops.

I moved into a C7 apartment the same day I took an EZIC bribe, thinking that if I moved in with money my new neighbors wouldn't question my new wealth.

It didn't help, and I was a tad pissed.

Even if you don't move at all they will notice your new wealth. But it is your duty to provide you country with a stong and healthy family. What better way to do this than with a glorious class 5 apartment with ammenities like not having to huddle around an oil lamp for heat and a separate room for the toilet.

Very interesting, your never see the apartment in game so I always imaged it as my apartment. I would be hard to fit a whole family in it because it's a single bedroom but it's farily comfortable.
