Anyone considering buying this check here first.
It's on HumbleBundle for $4.99. Really think this should have been free to anyone who bought the original or at least cheaper than $19.99. Especially considering if you bought any of the DLC and such.

It was discounted for owners of the original version for quite some time after the Director's Cut was released.

Should have been free considering Bioshock is giving it's upgarded content for free. Skyrim updated content is free. Along with numerous other companies. Discount is nice but they should have given out coupons or just made it free. Hell I didn't even know till I went to see what content I was missing from my verision while waiting for the new game. Then found out they just removed the store.

It's nice when companies do that, of course, but OTOH, they have to pay all their developers/programmers to do all the changes in a game, and if they feel they need to charge in order to make the effort worth it, that's fine also. It's great when somebody gives us free new stuff, but expecting people to work for free all the time would probably lead to a decline in updates/special editions. I don't mind supporting the devs who put together such a great game for us in the first place.

Let's be honest they tried to save money on a fringe idea by outsourcing. Fixed it then upgraded it probably with mostly free <- upgrades via DirectX and the (outsourced) engine they had. Most of these "updated" grahpics come from other companies who do the work on their engine. Then sold it back to us AGAIN. After they hit the >update< button (so hard, I know it's not that easy but that essentially what they did.). They updated the mechanics <- aka fixed. I really don't like supporting that kind of practice. Not to mention didn't I buy a lot of this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ DLC to support them already in the first place? What kind of triple dipping nonsense is that?

Like I get it, Japan doesn't share our Western ideas or ethics concerning consumerism but they should adapt to our market. If we were in Asia, I'd say sure sell me the same upgraded product three times. One copper version, one silver version, and one with an otaku love doll made of gold. You know what though, I'm not Japanese.

Maybe we'll change the slogan to gotta catch them all, and make two games where some items are on one version and some are on another.

The original version is a game in working order with no major problems - if it were a horribly broken or bug-ridden game, that would be one thing, but it isn't. It's a complete piece of functioning software; people got what they paid for with the original. Then the DC added/changed a few things (some graphics, but also some programming, including a major re-work of the boss arenas). If you don't think the changes are worth purchasing the updated version, that's fine, which is why they didn't take the original away, they simply stopped selling it.

Not to mention, given Steam's frequent sales and the fact that SE usually discounts their games fairly well, I'd wager a lot of the people who own the original edition on Steam didn't pay anywhere near full price for it.

I just want to say, did I call it or what. Mankind Divided is exactly the nature and culture of the problem with what I seen here and PROVES my point no matter how blind to it you are.

I'm not sure what exactly you "called," since we didn't discuss micro transactions (I have a suspicion that's what you're referring to; if not, you'd need to provide some specifics). If that's the case, however, you can't really blame SE for doing things that work. Gamers are the ones spending money on in-game items, after all. SE is simply going to follow the industry trends that make them a profit. That's what companies do.

They have once again released a game that is complete and completely playable without any of the extra content. Folks got exactly what they paid for. The system requirements are high, but I managed to get it running on a rig that's under the recommended specs (with some lowered textures, etc.) and it's cranking along just fine.

In any case, I feel that you're pretty thoroughly entrenched in your position, so good luck to you and hopefully you'll be able to find some game companies whose games you can wholeheartedly support and enjoy. I'll continue to enjoy SE's games.
