Should have been free considering Bioshock is giving it's upgarded content for free. Skyrim updated content is free. Along with numerous other companies. Discount is nice but they should have given out coupons or just made it free. Hell I didn't even know till I went to see what content I was missing from my verision while waiting for the new game. Then found out they just removed the store.
It's nice when companies do that, of course, but OTOH, they have to pay all their developers/programmers to do all the changes in a game, and if they feel they need to charge in order to make the effort worth it, that's fine also. It's great when somebody gives us free new stuff, but expecting people to work for free all the time would probably lead to a decline in updates/special editions. I don't mind supporting the devs who put together such a great game for us in the first place.
Like I get it, Japan doesn't share our Western ideas or ethics concerning consumerism but they should adapt to our market. If we were in Asia, I'd say sure sell me the same upgraded product three times. One copper version, one silver version, and one with an otaku love doll made of gold. You know what though, I'm not Japanese.
Maybe we'll change the slogan to gotta catch them all, and make two games where some items are on one version and some are on another.
Not to mention, given Steam's frequent sales and the fact that SE usually discounts their games fairly well, I'd wager a lot of the people who own the original edition on Steam didn't pay anywhere near full price for it.
I'm not sure what exactly you "called," since we didn't discuss micro transactions (I have a suspicion that's what you're referring to; if not, you'd need to provide some specifics). If that's the case, however, you can't really blame SE for doing things that work. Gamers are the ones spending money on in-game items, after all. SE is simply going to follow the industry trends that make them a profit. That's what companies do.
They have once again released a game that is complete and completely playable without any of the extra content. Folks got exactly what they paid for. The system requirements are high, but I managed to get it running on a rig that's under the recommended specs (with some lowered textures, etc.) and it's cranking along just fine.
In any case, I feel that you're pretty thoroughly entrenched in your position, so good luck to you and hopefully you'll be able to find some game companies whose games you can wholeheartedly support and enjoy. I'll continue to enjoy SE's games.
