your error message is as generic as it gets, so it doesnt help at all.
I would just update all your drivers and verify game files.

Would it help if i provided the problem details?

It might help if you can somehow get the stack trace of the game. I believe Windows logs it in its event logs. Open Event Viewer, and in the tree on the left, select Windows Logs->Application. On the pane on the right, click on "Filter Current Log...", and in "Event sources" checkmark ".NET Runtime". Click OK, and go through the entries until you get to one where the application name is DustAET.exe. Then paste the stack trace here.

Some basic guesses: maybe reinstall XNA Framework, and make sure your DirectX redistributables are up to date. Also, verify the game files to make sure things aren't corrupted.

I think this is right, and i have verified the game files

Looks like XNA is unable to create a folder to put the save files in. You should check if the folder "My Documents\SavedGames\DustAET\Save Files\Player1" exists. If it doesn't, create it manually, and if it does, check if there is anything wrong with its permissions.

Thank you, the problem was I didn't have the permission to enter the folder (administrator rights) and I have sorted that, thanks for your help!

Your sentence is hard to understand. No one was saying Windows 7 was the cause of the problem. Next time, please try to make clear what each "it" stands for.

The crash was (sort of) Windows 7. On my computer, I am not an administrator, and the file that was "missing" I couldn't access as it required me to be an administrator, entering the password to unlock it for me fixed the problem.
