This looks quite good, going to try it out in a couple minutes once Steam is done downloading.

Just what I needed. Thank you so much.

I HATED the way the Ultimate Patch made the game look.

nope, just make sure if you wanna play both addons, you install those along with quake 2 first, then run the patch

thx q2 finished now. Again one of the best games (mutliplayer) of all times.

Brilliant work! I now have fullscreen Quake 2 and the mission packs work once more. Many thanks.
Strangerhand 14 MAY 2014 a las 6:29 p. m.
Great, I guess. But for widescreen only. Is there anyway to make this work @ 1792 x 1344 in fullscreen?

You can set custom resolutions through the game's config file located in the resources folders
such as baseq2, rogue and xatrix folders. Before you do, launch the game, go into Video settings and tick the resolution to custom by tapping left on your keyboard. Then navigate to wherever Quake 2 is installed, then go into the baseq2 folder (if playing regular Quake 2), then open the config file. Look for two commands described as:

set r_customwidth "1280"
set r_customheight "720"

Change these numbers to your desired resolution, and hope this helps.
Apologies for the delay. :trainbowbarf:

@WinstonSmith6079 so obviously your numbers would be set up as

set r_customwidth "1792"
set r_customwidth "1344"

do i have to have the addons installed for this patchto work with the add ons? or can i install the patch and then install the add ons at a later date?

also, does this patch increase the brightness? as i noitice the game is alot brighter after applying the patch

btw, you are amazing for this! been wanting to play the original quake 2 without any updated or changed textures and stuff. thanks alot!

You could also try UQE Quake 2.

I developed it a while back because I wanted something that kept the game as close as possible to the original game itself with the minimum BS needed to update it and get it going.

The were loads of under-the-hood fixes, but if I should pick a few favourites I'd say:

- OGG music playback
- Widescreen Support
- Scaled 2D art (menus etc)
- Proper CIN playback (the original rescaled cinematics in OpenGL to 256x256)
