This kind of question inevitably pops up quite a lot in our community, it's something we see a lot of people asking, wondering if the current stage of Early Access is worth it for them. Ultimately the only answer we can offer is that this is something only you can really decide, it depends what you value in a playable game.
You can see a few of my posts about it here[forum.subterraneangames.com] and here, I think these will cover some of your post quite nicely. In the meantime I'll answer your specific questions that aren't covered in the above.
There is currently no AI for rival Underlord's and limited driven scripting in the demonstration levels, we're hoping to have something that is a little more substantial on this front before Rezzed this year but no promises. In the meantime as of the next patch we will be releasing Multiplayer to the General public and this may keep you entertained for a while.
As we're a Steamworks enabled game we're almost certainly going to introduce some Achievements and Trading Cards upon release. As for the workshop this is a little bit wait and see. We really want to introduce modding but we're not sure how far we can take it yet, our baseline target for release is a basic map editor though, ideally with steam workshop functionality.
Hope this answered your question if you'd like me to expand upon anything just ask.
Cheers!
Noontide

Appreciate the response and gl with the rest of development.
We'll certainly work hard on making this game the best it can be and hopefully when you next come and check on us it'll be something you can't wait to play!
