I agreed that it could have been better, but it's not the worst I've ever played. It just takes some time to get used to. Your best bet is to google some combat tutorials for this game hopefully that will take some of the frustration out of it.

When I first play this game, I was playing it like Batman Arkham City and got beat up and died a lot. Once you get the counter down the combat is fairly straight foward.

I agree the combat was very unclear it was just like lawl heres a fight heres the combo lab good luck punk im out.

HA. That's so true. I hate the combat.

Actually you guys are just bad, the 2nd play through I smoke everything.

It's not the game, just like the reviewers were wrong, it's the players.

It's sad because the game is really profound, and the way I was able to customize combos to many different purposes always felt great and really fun. Second play through, I now have totally different setups, cuz I learned MORE and I still have a couple things to unlock....

Give the game a chance, its a 9/10 IMO.

It may very well be that I haven't fully understood how combat's supposed to work, but that in itself would already be a failure on their part. Of course, it doesn't help that you don't get a manual here on Steam either.

I just can't seem to get the 2nd, longer combo to ever finish. It's just K-P-K-P-K with the right timing, right? Can't make it happen, and I have no problems pulling off more difficult stuff in DmC.

So I'm pretty much just smashing buttons with the occasional Batman-like dodge when the exclamation mark turns up. Sadly that even works, but it's totally lame and boring.

Why don't you at least try to explain what you think is bad about it? It's really difficult to take you seriously otherwise.
Dimarco Apr 21, 2014 @ 5:06pm
There is a timing element where you hit the NEXT attack as the FIRST attack LANDS. I didn't even fully understand it or master it until much further into the game. Then I was extremely comfortable and you actually start to shape your combos based on the frames (in my opinion) that worked well with the next move, and developing plans for each of your combos to help maximize efficiency.

I'm also playing on a wired xbox controller, on hard difficulty.

I already did: I can't make the obvious happen. I know, it's my fault for sucking at the game, right?

Anyway, after having played some more hours, I think it's because I'm more used to how it works in the Batman games. There, you can press the buttons for the next hit AROUND the moment you hit the enemy to chain them up, while here in RM you seemingly must NOT do it in advance whatsoever. You have to do it the moment you hit or slightly afterwards.

Combat is excellent, one of my favorites! Finished the game on 2nd difficulties without problems...

Easy there. I wasn't adressing you, but rather the other three guys, who didn't bother to elaborate their statements at all. And my intention is not to infer that it's their fault for sucking at the game, I just think that it would help tremendously, if they helped others understand why they don't like the combat system, instead of just hating on it.

You, on the other hand, did at least offer some explanation. That opens up an opportunity for discussion instead of just bashing :)

To adress your points; I think that the developers went to great lengths to help players understand how the combat works, so I don't really think they've failed in that respect. However, though I didn't have many issues with the combat, I also had trouble getting my combos to register at times - but still rarely. I think the issue is a matter of timing, which you also seem to think judging from your second post. You have to be very good at timing your attacks, and that could be difficult for some people, I believe. It's been around a month or so since I played the game, so I don't know how this holds up.

The combat system sucks because it doesn't make it easy for you? How long you chumps been gamin'?
danman Apr 22, 2014 @ 3:12pm
Sorry for jumping on your back Ladez. Internet habits. Thought you were one of those, like Westenra there.

Anyway, my instincts turned out to be true. The time window is not around the moment you hit (like in Batman), it only begins the moment you hit and afterwards. So in that sense, Batman has spoiled me. Now that I've relized that, it works a lot better. I'm even enjoying the game.

But in the end, a manual would have been nice.

Congrats. You're learning. Don't let anyone hold you back. XD

It's all good. I'm glad you're able to enjoy the game now. The lack of a manual didn't bother me, since most of everything is explained in the game. I typically don't feel the need for a manual anyhow. I see how not mentioning a minor detail such as the timing could be annoying though. There's a gazillion tutorial notifications in this game anyways, it could easily have been mentioned in one of these early on.

LOL, this game is aweful. PROFOUND lol ur funny. Also the combat is easy peasy right from the start. Its got nothing to do with the difficulty its just a bad ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game. Straight up. Also the idea that the game is based on is memory remixing has like 5 scenes, seems to me that there should have been alot more & multiple branching paths based on what the end result of the memory remix was. Not just the same thing, kills replayability IMO :o)
