Things that need changed/added or just fixed
My first impression of the game is, I'm running through a lot of tree's yet i cant find a stick or rock to use as a weapon... As a freshly created character i got some munchies and a flashlight but as a dead/resurrected player I have absolutely nothing and I can't even punch or kick anything.

Running takes way too long and/or there isn't enough things/places around. So first thing that needs to happen is there should be a lot more housing around the country or at least some kind of farms that have at least basic weaponry and simple foods/medicine or something.

Instead of the TL;DR version, here is a list of things that should be added:

1 - Sticks or branches (min damage or x uses)
2 - Rocks or pebbles (if not for damage at least for distraction)(possibly slingshots)
3 - Farmhouses (They are too few and far apart)
4 - Cars along the road
5 - Store bought items especially backpacks should remain on characters
6 - PVE without ganking and non hardcore (drop everything)
7 - Moveable furniture and real world items to form blockades (or more barracades/wood planks)
8 - Flammables and ability to light things on fire such as sticks for light or gas can grenades
9 - Fruit/vegetables tree's and leftovers from farms. Unless we are to assume it never rains anymore.
10- Refillable water bottles/jugs (I understand why we cant swim but should at least be able to drink or purify/boil water.
11- Lighters/matches
12- Animals to hunt for food and fishing
13- Natural health regen (lying down or being able to sleep should regen health slowly over time)
14- Tools for weapons (make or modify) anything from screwdrivers to ratchet handles
15- Loot on mobs/zombies (clips off of cops, tools from farmers, vests from military/police etc. Also bandages and other small items out of their pockets.)
16- Vehicles such as scooters, bmx bikes, Mountain bikes, horses etc.
17- Armor (shin guards/boots, belts for more items and to store clips, knee/elbow pads)
18- Way more canned/jarred food and almost every house should have a first aid kit or at least bandages.
19- Crawling and/or crippled zombies
20- Zombie dogs, cows, deer, or horses (maybe not but would mix it up a bit lol)
21- The ability to climb and remove items such as metal pipes from housing or boards from walls
22- The ability to sell items (if he sells for cash why not get cash for your stuff)
23- Mines, claymore, and other traps such as bear traps
24- Adrenaline needles, ephedrine, energy drinks or powders to mix with water to prevent/replenish fatigue/stamina
25- More NPC's at safe area's like a doctor, cook, bedding area to heal etc. ($X.00 for services)
26- Emotes/voices like pointing, yes, no, fire, wave
27- More bows/engineered weapons and throwing weapons like knives and ninja stars
28- Map markers or stickies to put notes on your map.
29- Revival option if a nearby person can get to you in the min. after death.
30- Caves/Bunkers and underground stash area's that may have loot/zombies

Pretty sure a good handful of these things are being worked on and some might be too difficult to implement. There are probably a lot of things i failed to mention as well.

Don't worry about the long list of things to fix, they need to fix other stuff first like the bugs in the game that get you randomly auto banned. Until they fix that, its pointless to play. Adding more buggy content won't help. Fix the bugs first.
Land mines, while they sound cool, would be a recipe for disaster on the pvp servers. People would just put them at spawn points, then wait to collect an unsuspecting person's loot. The banning has really ramped up lately, but based on what I've seen, they might have had a good reason to go all ban-hammer happy.
Energy drinks are in the game - see ElectroAid (which does help stamina too).
The bugs do need fixed especially if its causing some ppl to get banned without cheating. As far as the forums on infestation website for some reason my account doesnt work there so if someone wants to copy/paste this list for suggestions there, that's fine with me. I read a bunch of their suggestions and not that many of these are there. Killing ppl that spawn can be prevented by giving a longer immunity timer on spawn. It would waste something like that. Energy drinks and gatorade style electro aid are in game but i still think we could have a lightweight version of powders and other things to combine to make different things. This game doesnt feel very realistic with a lot of these elements missing.

As far as getting things done, isn't this game originally a mod of half life? So technically all the main work was done they just changed some code and designed a landscape. If im not mistaken it was released 2 yrs ago which means they have had 2 yrs to work out the bugs. I can't recall any game ever taking that long after release to fix the main problems in the game....
Actually as fast as they changed and designed the name change and everything with it, they could definately work more on the game itself.

Wow.. um no. It has nothing to do with half life and the "in production 2 years" was obviously a lie and they were called on it early, so they no longer even attempt to say that anymore. August last year, they started... and 90% of the game was taken from their first game (where they did the same thing... promises never kept, content never added, etc.) called WarInc.
oh ok i must be thinking of gary's mod but i thought war z was made using something else. The 2 yrs thing is just based off of their copywrite claim that it started in 2011.

War Z was made using their engine, which was used in War Inc. Nearly everything in this game besides the map itself and the zombies was just ported over from there.

Their actual trademark claim wasn't filed until August of 2012. It's almost a year now, total. Like so many other things, the 'worked on it 2 years' was just a lie they thought people were too stupid to question.

Yeah... They seem to be pathological liars. Sergey and Kewk especially.

The Wiki is a little wrong on that too, actually. It was Closed Alpha in October and Open Alpha on Oct 30. Then we went into beta at the beginning of December and were taken out of beta and into "foundation release" on December 17th.

Back to your suggestions though, I think (personally) they're all good. Unfortunately I don't see any that haven't been suggested before and ignored, though. =\ And no one from that company even comes here because they can't moderate these forums like they do their own, so posting it on their official forums is about the only way they'd ever see it. It probably won't get anywhere, like it hasn't for 8 months up until now, but you never know.
Well if they go through with the colorado revamp and get the new map opened up, let's hope that some of this stuff gets added to flavor up the game.
It would be nice. I won't hold my breath this time, but who knows. lol

While improvised weapons seem like a neat idea I think that the implimentation would be difficult. You would need to code the ability to harvest every tree in the game.
I think a better idea would be to allow us to punch with no weapon for a minimal amount of damage.

Part of the concept of the game is that it is a hardcore pvp game. Taking the penalty of death away will make the game more boring instead of less (personal opinion obviously).
That being said there has long been talk of PVE only servers, so that should satisfy everyone who wants a less hardcore version of the game.

Again the difficulty of coding this would be high and the payoff low. Plus several of these ideas lead to exploits and further imbalancing of pvp.

These basically come down to "need more food/medecine". The food/water aspect of the game is already so easy that it is a joke. It is to the point where if it is made any easies (i.e. food/water become more common) then it might as well be removed from the game completely.

If you mean the ability to sell it for in game currency (dollars) then I agree, but if you mean sell things for Gold Coins then it simply wont happen (much less the ability to sell GC for real money).

Please god no. This would be so exploitable and lead to so much spawn killing it would be horrible. Do you ever get annoyed by how many Riot Shields there are blocing doors? Imagine that these are all hidden bombs instead. No thank you.

Neither of these are needed at all. More NPCs just makes you run around to more places in order to buy what can be bought from the one NPC already. You can already buy food, water, and medicine with in game cash.
Emotes are always worthless in games. Sure they seem like neat ideas but they have zero tactical use. Use voice chat instead, it works much better and quicker.

These are what is left after you remove the items already in game, uneeded, unwise. Some of them are good ideas. I would love to have more/better bow type weapons, and the ability for a friend to revive you would be exactly the type of thing that could foster more people to play cooperativly rather than shoot on sight.

No PVE public servers. It's been said many times and that's still currently the official word.

This game was never marketed as a hardcore PVP game, so that's entirely your opinion on that one. It's marketed as a blend of PvP and PvE and hardcore is not mentioned. (especially now they they removed the half-@ssed hardcore mode)

If they were already in the game i wouldn't have suggested them. I've gone over the entire list of things available and like the post states either added/changed or fixed. I can see your point about mines/traps being used against players but at the same time like i stated if there was a much better spawn timer or spawn in a much safer location, it wouldnt be a problem. IMO the spawns should be near a camp so you can go to the vault/store right off the get go and not be spawn killed first thing either. Only on high pop servers will you see a lot of ppl trying to spawn camp the safe zones.

Items blocking paths is probably a bad idea too but being able to move them as a player and not a zombie shouldnt cause any problems. If you could kick/punch or at least swing a weapon at something to break it down with so many hits, that would fix it.

Like Caedo said "need more variety" is the whole purpose of this post. Running for literally 20-30 min without seeing anything but tree's is rather boring. You would think after 5 yrs (in game time since that's what the story is based off of) there would be more campsites/treehouses and other things built in the woods away from hot spots. As far as tree limbs and rocks and things, they don't have to be attached to tree's they can just be found on the ground next to them. All they would have to do is design a stick similar to the bat and just reduce the damage of it. Pretty sure that wouldnt take much more then a day of code and a week of design.

If they do finally have a PVE server where players cant kill each other, I almost guarantee they will keep a hell of a lot more players in the game. Buying anything off of the store with real money feels like such a ripoff if any random person can just come steal it. The hour wait to respawn pretty much guarantee's you wont have time for retribution unless you pay more real money (which is also nonsense imo).

As far as the selling aspect yes i mean in game cash. If the store sells you items for in game cash there is no reason we couldnt sell them items we didnt need for someone else to buy them. Maybe sell it at 1/2 value like a pawn shop. Getting 1-5 dollars average per zombie makes it where you have to farm zombies for days just to afford something small that's going to get used or lost in less than a fraction of the time it took to be able to afford it.

Hope i made a little more sense as i didnt really wanna do the TL;DR version when i started the post but i knew some people wouldn't quite understand why i would ask for some things. This game is supposed to be all about realism but its lacking so many aspects of realism that it's just half a game imo.
