Sacred 2 Gold

Sacred 2 Gold

Can this run on a Windows 8 system?
Thinking of getting this game from Steam as I've the UK retail version without the expansion. Since I've my OS to Win8, just like to confirm is this game W8 friendly?

Windows 8 is not officially supported. Neither is Windows 7 technically, but it works for most people out of the box on there. Sacred 2 came out before Windows 7 was even released, and there is no longer a developer who could fix something like this I'm afraid. That said, I'm seeing some reports on German forums that it does work on Windows 8, but that you have to reboot after installation before starting it up for the first time.

The DRM-free version is primarily for Steam. The separate Sacred 2 core game and the expansion don't work nice together when they are both DRM-free versions, so other digital stores would have to choose to offer Sacred 2 Gold DRM-free and find out a way to allow customers to upgrade to it for a reasonable price. In the end it's up to those digital retailers to decide what they want to do.

Should work i think, i can't test as i have win 7 x64, never had any issues..even with the retail copy ( non gold )

If you do have some issues, can look on here and see what others have done to fix their's, #1 thing i would say to try first is run it as win xp sp 2 ( if you have issues that is )

My UK retail version runs fine under comptabiilty WinXP mode - no problem with that. The game shutters when running under Win7 x64 Pro.
If you want to play SACRED2 on windows 8 64-bit, modify the game's shortcut by adding the command " --nocpubinding --skipopenal" at the end of row TARGET in shortcut - like this:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Deep Silver\Sacred 2 - Fallen Angel\system\sacred2.exe" --nocpubinding --skipopenal
You don't need to use the compatibility mode of Win XP or run as Administartor. (In compatibility mode of Win XP can't see subtitles on the menu buttons in the game.)
Instead of always wondering if a game can run under Windows 8, why don't you just dual boot it with Windows 7 instead?
Dual boot should only be suggested as a last resort. If Most things are working fine in Windows 8 there is little reason to still be running windows 7 as well. I have had very few issues in Windows 8 but then its not like the jump from XP to Vista.
I admit that I haven't tried Windows 8 yet mainly because its flat and boring Metro GUI, and I have a kind of rule of the thumb for myself about a new Windows which is to wait for at least a year for the compatibility issues fixed. And from all that I've seen recently, it seems the compatibility issues are still the main problem, hence why almost in every game's Steam forum there are always exist this kind of question.

So, IMO, if there are games that are running fine in Windows 8 and at some point, we wanted to play another games that are still having compatibility issues with Windows 8 and we're forced to use Windows 7 back, isn't that just a major hassle? Switching back and forth Windows just to play a particular game. That's why I thought it'll be better if dual booting Windows 8 with Windows 7 where the sole purpose of Windows 7 installed is just for gaming is a much better option until Windows 8 is mature enough compatibility-wise.

But then again, I haven't tried Windows 8 yet, and of course, to each their own. :)

(Sorry for my bad English. I'm not a native speaker.)
I am a Software Developer and member of the Microsoft Developer Network so I have easy access to most versions of windows. It is both in my personal and career interest to keep up to date with new tech so I always end up jumping straight into new things. Windows 8 was a completely painless upgrade and I have had almost no problems with it.

I will admit however I am lucky enough to have multiple systems so I tried it on my laptop beforew testing it on my main gaming PC.

As for reinstall windows, its not really a hassle for me. I keep a backup of my whole Steam collection and thats pretty much the only thing I care about aside from my music which is also backed up.

I have not had any problems with any major games on windows 8 so I do not think you should be worried about upgrading. As far as games are concerned its not the same as the massive leap from xp and 32bit to vista 64bit and onwards.
Works for me on windows 8 64 bit pro simply by running on administrator mode. No launch parameters were needed.
It works for me on both 32bit and 64bit OS win8. I had to toggle the capability mode back to winxp SP3 to allow firewall access for first time use. Then I was able to run it back in default OS using admin mode.

What really funny about this game and not many know is that this game has an added feature for XPS owners with custom LED lighting. It has the ability to flash and do strange lighting mode during the gameplay.

Thanks for the info. But what do you mean exactly by administrator mode? I'm running as administrator-capable account in this laptop. Is that the same?
I mean elevating the exe to run in administrator mode.

The fact you are logged in as an administrator is not the same. Applications only run at the level they think they need to. Sacred 2 is not running with administrator rights by default.

Think of it as passing your access rights onto them.

Navigate \Steam\steamapps\common\Sacred 2 Gold\system.

Right click sacred2.exe and run as administrator.

The best thing to do is create a shortcut of the exe. Right click it, go to properties -> compatibility then tick run this program as an administrator.
I tried the adding what others said at end of a shortcut. ran it and it couldnt' find physxloader.dll Fix:
just do a search and copy paste that file into the same file where the Exe is at which should be the steam\SteamApps\common\Sacred 2 Gold\system folder
Yes i have WIN 8 Pro just upgraded to 8.1 works fine mate :)
Yes, I just updated my Win 8 Pro 64bit to 8.1, the game did not start the first couple of tries, had to end the game in the end task menu, but it finally started up without any other problems found. Also, played a little Dota 2 and don't see why so many players play that game instead of this excellent game of choice. :portal:
Works on 8.1 so I would say 8.0 should be OK. Just install all the REDIST files in the game folder under Steam. VC redist was needed for it to work on my comp.
