CONFIRMED FIX FOR CRASH ON STARTUP [OUTDATED MAY2016]
I got a new laptop a month ago and this game was crashing on startup all the time. Changing compatibility, drivers, Windows user accunts, graphics settings and fullscreen/windowed in the game save file folder didn't help at all. Contacting Square Enix customer support was also a complete waste of time with their helpfull sugestions like verify game cache(first thing I did...). The game had no problem starting on my old laptop. Here I only got a black screen and a crash report. I wanted to try the old version of the game before the Air patch but couldn't figure out any way to rever to it. So I went into the folder and deleted the patch folder there. After this I actualy didn't just get the black screen but got to see the logos and then it crashed again. I deleted the DLC folder as well and then did the verification of game cache. It downloaded 1.5 GB of data(I am prety sure I didn't delete that much) and to my surprise the game now works. I did all of this after a fresh download followed by a cache verification that said everithing is as it should be even thou it clearly was not.

Hope this helps someone. If not then it might help Square/Avalanche fix this strange issue.

Where did you find the DLC folder? I got the logos and the crash just like you so I have hope, But no idea where the DLC folder is DD:::

It didn't work for me, It auto updated and the dIc and patch folders came back. Was that supposed to happen?

Have you ever had it work? Are you using a controller? What are your specs?
