Tux TF2 item--Only for Ubuntu users?

Greetings.

Despite playing TF2 both during the open beta and the Celebration Sale, I did not receive the Tux item. I waited for a few weeks, remembering the delay I had in receiving my Pyrovision goggles, but still didn't receive Tux.

I contacted Support, and they informed me that Steam for Linux is "only supported on Ubuntu 12.04/12.10".

Shouldn't I still have received Tux for playing on Linux, even though I run Arch rather than Ubuntu? Have any other users encountered similar issues?

I receive achievements just fine, so I don't know why it didn't register that TF2 was played.

It wasn't distribution specific, but you had to be playing the full native version of the game, and not Team Fortress 2 Beta or through Wine. Or at least tricking Steam into thinking you where.

And I was running Linux-native TF2 under Linux-native Steam (I had been looking forward to it for some time, as I have been a Linux user for 5+ years, and was growing tired of WINE), which is why I find it most peculiar that I didn't receive the item.

Was you playing "Team Fortress 2" or "Team Fortress 2 Beta"? Because just the first one gave the gift.

I was playing "Team Fortress 2". "Team Fortress 2 Beta" isn't even installed on my system.

Just so we can rule this out, when did you first start playing the native linux version of tf2? I ask because the Tux promotion ended on March 1st.

yes it was for the native linux version of tf2 not beta

I get my on openSUSE. In TF2 and TF2 beta.

I can confirm, not just for Ubuntu users. I have tux on openSUSE.
Started using steam as soon as it went public beta.

@tengwarscribe: I played multiple times during the month of February, after the Steam For Linux Celebration Sale began and the Tux item was announced.

Granted, I haven't been playing TF2 for very long (I started playing against actual humans during the Pyroland event), as evidenced by my inventory: http://steamcommunity.com/id/technogeek/inventory#440 , but I would have thought I would have received Tux, since I did play the native Linux version of TF2 (not in CrossOver or WINE) during the specified time period.

Thanks for letting me know that it wasn't an Ubuntu-only thing (that would have been quite nasty of VALVe).

I guess I'll just have to live without Tux in TF2. :-(

At least I have my plush Tux here IRL on my computer desk.... :-)

Its a shame that they limited to pre march 1.

I personally think Valve should have extended the promotion. Learning to install Linux can be tricky especially when you are a Windows user with absolutely no Linux experience.

Other than contacting Valve support one more time, I can't think of anything else you can do except trade for Tux with someone else. I'm sorry you didn't get one.

I'll see if there is any post on GitHub about this.
