I found out my reason. I use this program called Flux which tints the computer screen so it doesnt hurt my eyes. While its on it keeps it this certain brightness. After I turned it off when I play Penumbra and doesnt do this anymore I can go back to my 0.6 brightness to make the game very dark. If you dont have this program or somthing like it then Idk what could be on your end. Also just out of couresty what brightness you put it at? At least some one else is out there that makes the game darker instead everyone else who uses defualt 1.0 :)
How do you actually lower the gamma again once you've raised it? I have it on 1 but want to put it to .6 or .7
Main Menu In the options menu it should list gamma/brightness. Then just move it from 3.0 through 0.1 to your specifications.
