Mechjeb for interplanetary travel?
I was wondering mechjeb didnt seem to work for transfers to planets beyond kerbin's moons
is it finally working for transfers to all bodies?

I dont think so but not sure on the new version....Watch some videos on it cuss its really not that hard doing it manually. Practice doing it manually on mun. its the same on otherplanets just much further. Make sure you have enough fuel for burn to get there and back.

It does work to transfer to other planets, it's just that sometimes the encounter doesn't show up.

If thats so then NASA's been cheating for years
i know practically everything nasa does is an autopilot

im also struggling to do this it wont target the planet because something isnt inline

In the old version of Mechjeb, I believe it's the one available on Kerbal Spaceport, you had to be orbiting a planet in order to transfer to another body also orbiting it. So you would have to be orbiting the Sun to transfer to Duna instead of doing it from an orbit around Kerbin.

The new Beta version has an option to transfer to another planet. What it does is create the maneuver nodes and then the autopilot follows them. They added rendezvous and docking autopilots as well.

Personally I don't use MechJeb for automatic transfers because I found a way that is easier and more fun to me:
- I use Kerbal Alarm Clock for the right transfer window
- when the planets are aligned I set up a maneuver node for the transfer what involves some fiddling (remember: for the outer planets you have to burn shortly after sunset and shortly after sunrise for the inner planets)
- at last I use MechJeb to keep me pointed at the blue burn vector.

By doing so I get always an encounter. :)

MechJeb adds something that NASA and the Russian Space Agency uses, a flight computer. The only time either agency has to crunch numbers for manual burns is if something goes wrong in space (Apollo XIII mission). If you want further proof that it is handled by computers do a search on mission control. All they are doing is watching to ensure the astronauts push the right button at the correct time.

For ship building I use Flight Engineer Redux (I think that is the name of it). I go crazy trying to do all the mathmatics behind building a stable rocket.

I agree, automation is part of modern space flight.

About MechJeb 2.0.7 planetary transfer, I usually don't use it. I use the interplanetary calculator (http://ksp.olex.biz/) to calculate the planets position and departure angle. Then I place the departure node manually (crossing the target's orbit) and ask MechJeb to make a fine tune to the planet (which corrects inclination). It usually works, but it is not always as efficient as possible.

itll surely help, but i think even with the protractor addition for mech-jeb you still gotta press a couple buttons. hope your fingers dont get tired :P

i finally broke down n installed mech-jeb myself, i feel like such a cheater now, damn i setup a ship, went and cooked some lunch and came back to watch as my launched craft had just arrived at predetermined orbital distance.

is there a version, or equivilent of mech-jeb that doesnt have all the automation, but still gives all that vital information? besides the ability to quick calc tonage, and being able to see AP/PE info via staging mode, and perhaps phase angles in the future, i really dont want all the rest of mech-jeb.

The first time I saw this game I wasn't expecting that I have to pilot anything, I thought it was about managing a space program. To me, the biggest challenge of this game is vehicle designing and mission planning, not piloting. However, this is a personal matter, so each on their own.

Check the Kerbal Engineer Redux mod:

yah, i really am a natural when it comes to flying space craft/ launching them/ building them even, only got mech-jeb cause i saw vid that showed all the nifty stuff it does, i especially like the additional information panels, dispise AP/PE info not being visable in staging, seems like a major oversight on squads part. also using it for specific orbital alts, the ingame node system is just a pain in the butt when your trying to reach an exact 370km circular equatorial orbit. but since mech-jeb gives me AP/PE info down to the 1millionth of a meter...i like details ;)

i dont want mech-jeb, cause now every screen i take ima have to assure that im doing everything you see manually, which i have been, but spreadsheeting just doesnt cut it for tonage calculation, still too much input required. Id actually overlooked KSP when i first saw title picture via steam, was like "bah steam games always suck" ...lol

thanks for the heads up, ill be looking into engineer soon

and my input on this is, i dont feel its cheating, as i dont enjoy the flying side, i like creating things (in VAB and watching them fly, or in orbit for whatever their purpose, and im hoping to start up on the mun soon) i would say dont become too dependant like i have, though it has taught me a lot, im still not that much closer to flying a manual flight (hmmm, objective for the day me thinks) just because its not stock, and never will be in this sense (in career kerbals will be trainable to complete missions) doesnt mean it isnt an integral part of the game; like, space agencies all use autopilot, and games like... i dunno, Total War.... if you dont like campaign, play custom battle, if you dont like battles, play campaign and auto resolve.... i dont feel its cheating if it removes the portion of the game i DON'T like, so that i can enjoy and appreciate the game as a whole....

there haha; and yeah, mechjeb 2 is great

Plus its a single player sandbox game, so you can do whatever the hell you like; people really piss me off when they say "ooooh your cheating; ooooh your not playing it properly" surely, if you enjoy how your playing, then who bloody cares.... sorry lol
