The new Beta version has an option to transfer to another planet. What it does is create the maneuver nodes and then the autopilot follows them. They added rendezvous and docking autopilots as well.

Personally I don't use MechJeb for automatic transfers because I found a way that is easier and more fun to me:
- I use Kerbal Alarm Clock for the right transfer window
- when the planets are aligned I set up a maneuver node for the transfer what involves some fiddling (remember: for the outer planets you have to burn shortly after sunset and shortly after sunrise for the inner planets)
- at last I use MechJeb to keep me pointed at the blue burn vector.
By doing so I get always an encounter. :)
For ship building I use Flight Engineer Redux (I think that is the name of it). I go crazy trying to do all the mathmatics behind building a stable rocket.
I agree, automation is part of modern space flight.
About MechJeb 2.0.7 planetary transfer, I usually don't use it. I use the interplanetary calculator (http://ksp.olex.biz/) to calculate the planets position and departure angle. Then I place the departure node manually (crossing the target's orbit) and ask MechJeb to make a fine tune to the planet (which corrects inclination). It usually works, but it is not always as efficient as possible.
i finally broke down n installed mech-jeb myself, i feel like such a cheater now, damn i setup a ship, went and cooked some lunch and came back to watch as my launched craft had just arrived at predetermined orbital distance.
is there a version, or equivilent of mech-jeb that doesnt have all the automation, but still gives all that vital information? besides the ability to quick calc tonage, and being able to see AP/PE info via staging mode, and perhaps phase angles in the future, i really dont want all the rest of mech-jeb.
The first time I saw this game I wasn't expecting that I have to pilot anything, I thought it was about managing a space program. To me, the biggest challenge of this game is vehicle designing and mission planning, not piloting. However, this is a personal matter, so each on their own.
Check the Kerbal Engineer Redux mod:

i dont want mech-jeb, cause now every screen i take ima have to assure that im doing everything you see manually, which i have been, but spreadsheeting just doesnt cut it for tonage calculation, still too much input required. Id actually overlooked KSP when i first saw title picture via steam, was like "bah steam games always suck" ...lol
thanks for the heads up, ill be looking into engineer soon
there haha; and yeah, mechjeb 2 is great
Plus its a single player sandbox game, so you can do whatever the hell you like; people really piss me off when they say "ooooh your cheating; ooooh your not playing it properly" surely, if you enjoy how your playing, then who bloody cares.... sorry lol
