When I try starting the game in updated mode it gets to the devolver digital start-up screen then just stops & closes

I have found the only way to play is to play in classic mode

You should avoid playing Original whenever possible.

In 90% of the cases, you can actually play Updated if you take a bit of time to read through this thread for common fixes ;)
