Why is my game suddenly downloading a 9 GB update?

Dont know why, since all steam does is download the launcher and we donwload the updates through that, for me it could be because i havent updated the game for a couple of months and the updates are backing up.

Patches backing up? No, I wouldn't have thought so. I regularly update my game (even though I haven't been playing much of late) and that's quite a large update that is downloading now...
