Why Do People Hate This Game so Much?!

After playing Rome: Total War for years and putting hundreds of hours I've found pretty much every other Total War game rather horrible.. except this. (The only reason why I've 'played' Medieval 2 for so long is because of a hurrendous bug, 1 of many for me...). After hearing so many people moan about this game I eventually picked it, along with about 50 others in the Christmas sale so I didn't really play it that much at first but now... My. God. I honestly struggle to see why so many ♥♥♥♥♥ and whine about this. I've only experienced 1 bug which was when I was doing a historical battle but that fixed itself but apart from that.. Nothing. I'm playing as Rome, Macedon and Iceni and I've not come across one fault and to be honest, it feels exaclty the same as the first Rome, but just even better. It's not perfect though, some of the animations and map collisions can be a bit odd but in the whole, it's a truly incredible game (I don't think I've ever really played a game for 4 and a half hours in one session). To me, it's what I always wanted it to be and alright, there might've been bugs at first but for me there are none to be seen..

I think that the main problem is the DLC's - the fact that players need to spend much more than they initially buy just for the full content of the game, and the fact that you cannot play all countries.
To be honest, I understand what line of thinking people are using for this.

Also, you and I may not have faced many issues with bugs, but it seems that with certain systems, the game does not run well.

Because it's not the exact same game as the previous game in the series/previous game with same subject.

When S2 was released people hated it. When empire was released people hated it. When ME2 was released people hated it etc.

Hi Praetorian, simple question, you buy the game pre launch everything works but the games a bit pants. Some one suggests modding which you do and hey the games much more interesting. Say you're playing as Syracuse 100 turns in the CA bring out a patch hey presto not save compatable, start again, once the modders have caught up. That happens time and again and then just to finish you off a patch comes down the line which despite all of your best efforts prevents the game from loading and thats it, end of, no more. HOW DO YOU FEEL ??? Enjoy the game while you can it might not last

Or becasue they are in fact not all the same, not all as well concieved and excuted, and when one like R2 comes along that is a souless Frakenstein of a creation everyone reacts to it accordingly.

people complain about everything. especially people on steam. yes rome 2 was broken at release but now i find it better then previous titles.

joshuax978 You make it sound like there's nothing to complain about, as if we've got nothing better to do. If you're games so great how come you've got time to come on here. Best TW ? Med 1 was better than this S**** and they did that in a shed !!!!!!

people complain about every game no matter if is good or bad, hate creates the illusion they're "the cool people and wise" when is pure douchebagary....... also hate and non-sense brings attention and this works perfectly for needy attention-seekers.

Thanks for all of the comments guys and I think many of us share the same opinions. I'm quite a varied game so I'm constantly looking at different, upcoming/recently released games but everytime I go on the Community Hub I see attention-seeking ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and just pathetic trolls ruining it all.. And I actually see it a lot in here also. I guess many people just hate new things, especially when it comes down to franchises like Total War.. That's one of the biggest issues with Steam.. The amount of trolls and pathetic attentions eeking ♥♥♥♥♥♥. Even if there were a few bugs in this game I wouldn't matter because it is pretty much the original, but even better. And yeah Commodus, that's the only issue I have with it. They're just following with the EA trend... Release a game and then release DLC like 1 month afterwards (I'm sure the Alexander DLC for the original Rome was released like a year and a half after Rome: Total War was...)

I just came back to these forums after uninstalling it 6 mo ago to see how it was coming along.

People hate it because the game was sold as retail in an Alpha state and each patch they added hardly fixed the real problems. They charged $50-60 for an alpha game and then were(and still are apparently) ill-equipped to fix it to a retail state. One word to describe the Dev team: Incompetent.

I think the game itself is very good, however the publisher SEGA is probably the reason people dislike it so much. Basicaly after Creative Assemably finished the game SEGA stripped many, factions, and features and would sell them as DLC later on. The sparked outrage obivously. Think of it like this, we all paid for a box of pizza. However SEGA cut a fourth of the pizza out and cut that fourth of pizza into little tiny peices to be sold at EXTRA cost, ecen though we ALREADY PAID FOR IT!!!! One example is the greek states DLC, WHICH WAS ALREADY SUPPOSED TO BE IN THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway thats my explaination.

Just played a round with helping AI defend his home terf. He literally stay'd idle while the attacking AI captured both points, then started to fight... I made my way into the area after a long run, and captured one point back and was unable to stop the auto win. Going to uninstall for a bit again and see if they keep improving it down the road. They just sat idle as the enemy flooded them and captured points... I mean... really?

I miss the old total wars. Not sure about this one.

The one that didnt nickel and dime us for blood packs and crap that should be in. The reason they do it is because they know suckers will keep paying.

I think that horrible launch of this game is gonna stick in a lot of peoples "craw" for a looooooong time. Time will heal.
