Luckliy this isn't a twitch shooter, so high pings aren't too bad.
BTW, the first level cap was 50 :-)
Having the servers all across the atlantic increased the response times for EU players, but it also depends on your local internet provider. I'm pretty close to the large backbone, so the delay from East coast USA is not a big deal most of the time.
I am from EU but in other games i dont have delay only in lotro is there a way that can be fixed?
Short of moving the US? Not really... if you're getting data from thousands of miles away in 160ms, I'd count your blessings. Back in the good old days, a ping of 300 was considered outstanding.
1- There are no PvP servers in LOTRO -- in fact, there is no PvP, only PvMP -- which is similar, but very different from PvP in other games.
2- All 29 Turbine servers (there are also 2 more in Russia) are physically located in Boston MA.
3- When Codemasters ran the European francise of LOTRO, the EU servers were located in Europe. Codemasters also ran unique code on their servers -- that is why it is NOT possible to transfer characters from the old EU servers to the NA servers.
4- When Codemasters ran the EU servers (2007), the Internet did not raelly exist - transatlantic. There was very limited bandwidth available. Today, there is virtually limitless bandwidth across the Atlantic. That said, one cannot compare Turbine to Valve or Blizzard. Both Valve and Blizzard have their own private networks for gaming -- Turbine uses the commercial Internet. The Commercial Internet is constantly under DOS (Denial of Service) attack, like the recent attack on Sony Pictures, only much more generalized. The end result is that bacikbone traffic can "hic-up" frequently, and usually does. Most of the time, these issuea are not visible to the "normal" Internet user -- but we gamers are anything but normal! For one thing, whe have dramatically higher expectations of "the net" than the average public.
In short, the Massively Multiplayer aspects of LOTRO are surprisingly unique on the net. Bilizzard (WOW) is 3 or 4 times larger than the next largest game out there. LOTRO is, according to one poster above, #5. While not as big, LOTRO is big -- it runs 29 servers to support the gaming community.
LOTRO does have its own issues with "hic-ups" - hardly what one could call lag; much worse than that. Yes Rohan and Gondor still have issues with "mounted" gameplay (combat or not). Many of them can be and have been fixed - if people bother to bug them with location information. Sadly, there is no magic wand to wave -- if there was, I would not have all the issues I have with playing on a Mac!
