Conquest of Elysium 3

(Noob) Strategy Questions
Hello everyone!

I just picked this game up and I read through most of the manual, but I'm just wondering a few things. Maybe you fine people can help me.

1 - Do I have to protect hamlets, villages and mines and stuff? I mean, common sense says yes, but at the beginning of the game I really don't have enough units to be dispatching units to every village/hamlet that I capture. Plus, I don't have enough commanders to move them there, so this seems like it would be tedious. What's a general strategy for capturing these places on the map?

I will post more questions as I come across them while playing. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Some nations have some free units which you can locate there liky Levies for Baron or Bokemono soldiers - you can locate them there and keep them to guard the hamlet or village. It's is usually good to rid of locations where neutral monsters are spawned near you - Ancient Forect (can be captured by some nations or burned down with special ability), Brigand Lair - can be captured or Graveyard and few more.

What I do sometimes is have a commander to fight with and one kinda wandering around defending/recapturing towns. Works all right with npc opps anyhow. And yeah, some of the nations are pretty decent at defending aside from that.

Which class are you using?

Certain classes thrive on dine and dash, while others require a slower approach.

I was using the Baron, and I've developed a sort of strategy for defending things. Raise levies, or, if it's really important like a coal mine or a gold stream, I will station a small army there permanently. Seems to work okay. I keep an army or two exploring the area and capturing and re-capturing as necessary. Seems to work pretty well.

I usually put enough units in resource squares to fight off most of the independant stacks.

You can pick your class and the AI's classes (or do any random).

I've been playing the Bakemono. Defense has such a huge advantage that just a handful of troops can hold of nasty wolves and bandits. In one map I was lucky enough to capture a whole peninsula full of coastal villages, while in other maps I am forced to stack weaker units at capture points and gradually build an army of heavier troops who can win the offensive battles.

It really depends a lot on your faction. I play Troll King or necromancer, mostly.

With a necromancer, you really need to take and hold the larger cities and the occassional gallows. Other areas are less important, but you want some iron at least. The larger villages and up gives hands (the necromancers' special resource) while farms and such give only a little gold. As necromancer you can raise defenders out of the town's original defenders, if you have a spare apprentice you won't mind if stands drooling in the fields occasionally.

The troll king is the ultimate beginner's faction. Once Mum comes to help out, you get fungus and can make (ancient) forests into (ancient) troll forests, which spawn semi-independents who will help defend and capture territory for you without your interaction.
