what do you think steam will be like...
continuing from here:
http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?threads/what-do-you-guys-think-steam-will-be-like.83599/

so, once CF puts together a trailer and announcement for the update (LOL!) what will our reaction be?

i'll go ahead:

just what you'd expect, i'd first complain about dev time lost from making yet another useless trailer.

then, assuming that nothing above what has gone into nightlies is in the new update (wont call it a patch, seems more like a redownload) i would sigh, shake my head, and say "too little, too late".

what's in the nightlies now, we should have had at the end of may.

so fellas, how WILL steam be like?

Excellent question Gori friend. Perhaps I might say "Thanks for giving me what I paid for" or "Steam has such an inercia that the community there will probably not even change their reaction to Starbound until it is finally released. " or I could go a step further Gori friend and say something well educated like "People will think no differ, and then start to complain about the next update, Seoulfull has seen it all before."

Good to know our counterparts at the official forums think so highly of us. Perhaps we should have a thread about what their reaction would be.

no, my friend, as that would only stir the pot more. we dont like these artificial barriers in the community. we are all one family.

but i would like to know how closely we here who stick mainly to steam measure up against the expectations of our counterparts on the official forums. regrettably, my reaction is predictable. perhaps others will be less so.

You have to remember a happy consumer is usually a silent one. Like Futurama taught us "When you've done something right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all".

I think the majority of people posting on steam are posting as consumers, whereas starbound forum posters are posting as fans/supporters, causing a divide that makes each side view the other as either die hard fanboys or persistent trolls.

To answer the question more directly, steams response to anything starbound related with be mostly negative as always (unless CF pull a VERY impressive update out of the hat, and even then there will be nay-sayers.)

I'll just be happy when the damn thing is finally finished.

my reaction will be I don't care what their announcement or trailer is. I care if the game is going to actually be improved and how long it will take to get to the next actual update after that.

I mean if its going to be another year just to get a real update once this one comes out I might just say screw it and not bother with starbound anymore

i was waiting for this response, just to point out thay they've been posting "announcements" for months and months, yet no update to stable.

Then perhaps the thread should be "What do you think the community reaction will be like?" rather than trying to single out steam. Reactions will be similar across both forums so trying to single us out is a little "toxic" wouldn't you say Gori friend? I'm not trying to stir any pot here friend if they don't mean any ill will surely we wouldn't either. SeoulFull knows this friend.

I think having a "set" date for an update would be nice but I don't think a trailer would do anything for me. Would we be getting patch notes/update notes as well?

I'd say FINALLY, then realize that i gave up on CF a year ago.

Annoucement and trailer? Words and pictures that have no indication of where they actually are in development. So my reaction to these things would be the same as my reaction to any of their numerous blog entries showcasing things that will likely never be implemented.

An actual update that halfway resembles the game which was advertised to me is another matter entirely.

My oppinion is the same. I dont care about their "announcements" and I`m at a loss why anyone would care about an announcement. They are making anouncements all the time. If they DELIVER what they announce and it is a rather large update then I will be pleased. But the announcement itself? Dont care at all.

Steam will be full of praise and valid, constructive criticism, as it always is.

You linked people here from the game forums just to see your oh so witty sarcasm?

I was thinking more of the expanse of the thread in it's entirety. If you think it's an ego thing, you are well off the mark. There is no sarcasm, only truth.

Some people want a rivalry between steam and official forums. They don't realize we all want the same. This game to be much, much better than it is.

All the guys who think the game is good enough will be even more pleased when it's as good as we want it to be.

Do you think it's fair that you can speculate on how "Steam Users" might react and lace your threads with "oh so witty sarcasm" while if we were to make such a thread surely it would be locked? It's that sort of thinking that creates a divide in this community and really hurts us.

sadly, to be honest, i dont expect this thread to survive past someone with mod powers waking up =\
