Savegames location
I installed TW2 quite a while ago and now, supposedly from the most recent update, I cannot play the game because the .NET installer keeps running, and then the launcher, and then the installer, ad infinitum.

Where are the savegames located? I want to delete the game and reinstall it but don't want to lose the progress. I looked all over my PC and cannot find the folder.

Thanks.

You find the Savegames in the Documents-Folder.

Thanks - always looked for 'THE Witcher2' like it is everywhere else. Whowooda thought it'd be just Witcher 2?

Thanks.
Do NOT delete the game. Even reinstalling it won't solve the problem of it doing the first time setup thing every time you launch.
There IS a way to make it skip the first time setup though, but I can't remember what it is. If you go to the PROPER steam forums for this game (not these new "discussion" forums) there is a whole thread about it, and that tells you how to do it.
Also the game puts your saves in a couple of different places, depending on whether you are using cloud storage or not. I had trouble because I enabled cloud storage and then disabled it later and I lost all my saves. Had to hunt down both save folders and place the saves from one into the other and vice versa so it would load my recent save files.
Oh, and if you are really can't find how to disable the first time setup thing, then delete the game and reinstall your good old games version, which you can redeem by going to the site with your steam witcher 2 key and entering it there. You can do the same with the witcher 1 as well. Pretty cool eh?

I'm downloading the GoG version right now. I managed to locate the savegames and relocated them until after the GoG install. Hope this works. Is Steam going to be up-front and come clean on what happened? I always thought them a reputable and not sneaky like EA!
Come clean about what? The fact that it always does the first time setup? I don't know what the problem is with that, but a whole lot of people had the problem, but not to the point where it stopped them playing the game. It just took ages for it to install directx and the the microsoft visual c++ stuff. But after that the game would launch fine.
I have the problem myself, but I did the trick of making it ignore it so. So now the first time install thing flashes up but the game launches before it even starts installing all that rubbish.
If you just find that workaround, it's very simple if memory serves, you should have no trouble after that. It's on the forums somewhere
Actually, here you go:

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2824288

That should do it (unless that gets deleted because it is a link). That's all I did. It doesn't stop the launcher from trying to do the first time setup, it just stops it from actually going through with the whole thing. On mine it just briefly flashes on screen and then I go to the actual game launcher and from there to the game without trouble.

I would honestly try that before deleting and downloading the whole thing again from GoG

After the first time it went through with the "first time setup," I just started clicking no and the game launches. Guess I should fix it sometime..

To fix your problem, simply go into the directory where witcher 2 is installed (Default C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\the witcher 2), and rename the folder called 'Redist' to anything else like 'Redist_old'.

It will no longer try to run the .NET installer each time you run the game, and it is perfectly safe to do this.

Hi everyone! I have the game installed on my second hard drive with the lettre D: . I would like to erase some saves because the gui get choppy but i can't find the gamesave folder. On my primary hard drive i can see the proper folder but there nothing on it. How can i do to locate my saves?

I have an idea. Maybe i can make a search on my drive by pointing to the extension of the save file using #.extension. But what is the extension of the files?

Since the game switched to using Steam Cloud the saves can be found in (...)\Steam\userdata\<user>\20920\remote. However, when you delete saves from there, you only delete them from your drive not from the Steam cloud.

The Steam Cloud will not resync after the deletion of some saves?
