Chapter III Salamander Cave Crashing

Witcher keeps crashing near end of chapter 3 while fighting in salamander cave. Can anyone help?

Not sure if you've solved this already, but this happened to me too. Many times. What I did the time I was successful was to kill the sorcerer first and then go after the army. And before the army was completely dead, to go past them to Javed and the Professor. Hope that helps.

Thank you Lord_of_War , I've searched the internet for a solution, have tried so many advices given by other users on this and other sites and nothing worked until i've read your advice and YAY it worked. Thanks once again =)

This game sometimes crashes when I just load a saved game and do a short run in certain direction or change a few locations and then run.. These crashes seem to be random, but if you reproduce your movement they usually repeat. My solution is simple: do something else, change locations in different order, save and then try again.
Salamander cave quest went smooth, by the way, but shortly before it I had crash while running along city street to the inn to unload some loot.

If your game is crashing in the Salamandra base, make sure to open the portal and let the elves in before you start fighting the salamandra. The game was crashing for me over an over, until I realized I had forgotten to turn the portal on first.

just change the game from fullscreen to windows mode. it works for me.. after passing this event, just switch it back to normal (fullscreen)

sorry havent replied sooner. Uninstalled then reinstalled and seems fine. Now stuck at the bit after Professer dies. Well Thanx anyway for all your help!

January 2020. I had the same issue today. In the end, after reading all over the internet, it turns out this level / area has glitches and crashes for many people. The best strategy is to save often, try to kill the mages, and after that run over to the Professor and Javed and it will cut and storyline moves on. I must have save at least 20 times with it freezing and crashing about 40 times. But, eventually that got me through.

I did try:
- turned down graphics to minimum (didn't help me)
- exited full screen (didn't help me)
- made sure my computer was not in power-saving mode (no help)
- considered reinstalling game, but found out others had this problem with this level so I resisted and just forged ahead and got this level over with.

Thank you! This helped me too. I killed the two mages and then went to Javed and it didn't crash. Also this way I didn't have to fight with the full army.
