The Witcher: Enhanced Edition

Plant-tentacle-things-FUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-
Every time these buggers show up in a quest I'm pretty much forced to ditch it. Cave in chapter I, plants EVERYWHERE and while I'm busy with one two more spring up and start nailing me with thorns from a distance. Chapter 2, escorting old dude through the swap, suddenly some kind of boss version of it shows up and pretty much 1-hits me to death. Swallow and other potions do bugger all due to the sheer damage these plants do and their masses of health prevent me from killing the bloody things.

Halp?

Remember that whetstones and various oils can be applied to your blades to boost damage. Also, don't forget about all the signs at your disposal, which can help majorly in certain situations, either by protecting you or causing more damage. I believe the echinops are susceptible to strong silver but I'm not 100% on that -- if you have them added to your bestiary in the journal, it'll tell you which style they're most injured by.

The archespore ("boss" echinops) is really tough. There's a bounty for him available back in Vizima. I wasn't able to take him down for a while personally. I'd suggest steering clear of him for a while in the early goings.
Igni Sign and Crinfrid Oil, at least iirc Crinfrid Oil, whichever one is for plants. Fast/ Group sword stance.
Where do I get the recipes for those oils?
I just avoid those annoying creatures.

Can't do that as they seem to be a in several quests :P
The formula can be found in a safe within Everden's Mansion, Vizima Temple Quarter. Apparently, it doesn't work any better on plants but it still increases the damage you do and increases the chance of causing the pain effect, so it's worth trying it.

Personally id just get a list of potions from gamefaqs. as long as you know what the potion needs you can make it without the recipie
Set them on fire, strong steel = patinado, y'all (provided you invested in that skill). Heck, even without patinado, that's the way to go.

Echinopsae are immune to pain.
I wouldn't know really. I never once needed to use an oil throughout my entire playthrough. I had my Silver and Igni skills high enough by then, though I remember being one or two hits away from death after the fight was over.
Just kill it with fire.
Never had problems with these. But yes, they can seriiously damage you if you just run into them without thinking and preparation.
forget your sword and use a torch. seriously, the incineration chance does massive damage to them. in A1 use a swallow potion as well in that cave, in A2 in the swamp the first one you encounter is actually a boss. stick with igni/torch and get in close. use strong silver if able to survive with the incineration bonus.

you could also go with quick silver, does a lot less damage but so long as its not highly skilled up, you'll interrupt all the attacks.

Was going to say the same as above, fire and or Strong Silver does the trick.

Remember you can dodge and move away in this game.

IGNI is also your friend, it will stop several enemies in their tracks giving you the upper hand.
^^ Fire! Igni the heck out of em, Use strong Silver attacks, a sword with Incineration on it is best. But the Torch thing does actually work. No Oils will work on these to my knowledge, But I have had a good time with Dragon's Dream Bombs and Igni..:)
