Steam Doom3 / non-Steam Doom 3: Multiplayer Possible?

The title says it all. I had an old version of Doom 3, then bought BFG edition for the extra missions. I installed my old version on my daughters PC, so we could multiplay together, but cant get them together. My version always goes straight into the stream multiplayer, while the original version just loads the normal internet server lists. She joined steam, then loaded the non-steam game into the list, made friends, but still no-go.
Anyone have an idea how this could work?
Honestly, I find steam a complete waste of time.

You kidding, right? It's like saying "I bought Doom 3 to play with my friend who has Doom". A game from 2004 and a game from 2012. Never mind that 2 games use the same art, these are 2 different technologies, using 2 different multiplayer methods.

So, short answer no, you can't play multiplayer between Doom 3 and Doom 3 BFG.

As for Steam being waste of time, did you just crawled out from under a rock? Wake up, please, this is how PC games are distributed and played today. So why don't you buy another copy of BFG on Steam and play with your daughter like it suppose to be done.

P.S. Sometimes I wonder if these people ever stop and think before posting such nonsese.

Perhaps you could use a bit more book learning and a little less computer gaming.

Steam is a waste of time for people who don't consider video games to be the most important thing in life.

I come from the era of floppy disks and while I am a game developer, I don't have time to actually play games during production cycle. So playing games isn't something I do often. Steam has been nothing but the most convenient things happened to PC gaming.

I am here, and trying to reply to relevant topics, because I am using Doom 3 BFG engine for my current project.

And FYI, I have master's degree in mechanical engineering, so I've had a fair share of book learning ;)

So yeah, welcome to the new age :)
