Get the vanilla Doom3 instead, better game overall . I've modded the crap out of it and man it looks better than most games released today .

Unless you want Nvidia 3D surround. Which only BFG edition supports. After playing Doom 3 in 3D I don't think I would go back. Those scenes where the corrupt flesh is twisting in and out of the ceiling are just magical in 3D.
I've just played a bit of BFG so far and although it's way brighter than the original it also gives me a much higher frame rate. Regardless, I think the original Doom 3 is gorgeous without any mods and with just a few config tweaks (like setting your resolution and showing the player shadow).
Good point tech . Definitely get this version if you want to play with 3D surround .

Technically though this game is superior if we are comparing vanilla vs vanilla . The engine is just more advanced , modern features and most importantly more optimized . The only real thing that cripples it is the fact that they locked it out from mods , which is a stupid ideal if you ask me . Shame really .

I love Doom3 (not the BFG version), but I've never modded it. Wanna point me in the right direction for some good mods for it?
Sure thing man . I can give you the combination of mods I'm using and some screenshots to go with it for comparison . Just give me an hour or two , heading home from work lol.

Do you have a couple of screen shots of that?

Sounds great.
I played the hell out of the original Doom 3....and I just saw the trailer for the new Doom game and decided to finally purchase for my own PC(played it on my Xbox and used my friends PC during original launch).
For 2.50 more, I decided to try the "new" version, with Steam Achievements and the original games. That'll hold me over until the launch of "Doom"

Alright, gonna try and make this quick and summarize it as much as possible lol. Probably gonna be a bit lengthy but first I'm going to show you the mods capabilities first via random screenshots I took and then if you are still interested you can read on and know what mods I'm using.

But first I'm going to give a comparison between Doom BFG (Max settings) and Doom Modded (Max settings as well).

*Keep in mind these are old screenshots I took awhile back. My config looks much different now that I have configured/customized the mod a bit more to my preferences. Another thing to take note of is that I have my Nvidia colors customized to my monitor, so depending on your monitor/color settings my screenshots may look too dark or too bright, its up to you to set your settings. Best one to set if you have an Nvidia video card would be the "Digital Vibrance" settings in Nvidia Control Panel, which enriches the colors in anything.

The mod also lets you change the "color" of the environment. Here's one using a different number, 22 I believe which removes the darker tone and makes it more color vibrant.

Now if you're still interested in what mods I'm using I can give that in the next post. Gonna take some time finding links and what not so if not needed then I wont waste that time lol.

Yeah, I'm still interested in the mods. The screens of the modded D3 you put up look real nice.

What graphics card are you running that on btw? I'm on a GTX 570.

EDIT: Get a good 60fps is important to me, so do ya think my card can run it modded at 60+?

At the time I was running 2x GTX680's in Sli. But I'm pretty sure your GTX570 will do the job just fine, provided you dont use "Parallax Occlusion Mapping". Its something added in one of the mods I use, it basically does this

Basically it makes the textures pop out. This is the reason why my textures look like they have depth, specially in hell levels. Its a huge performance hog that setting. You might run it fine but probably have to turn down alot of effects in the mod to gain 60Fps solid. All maxed out wouldnt work with your card though I'm afraid, specially if you're trying to achieve 60Fps solid, it will drop in the hell level most likely.

But first mod is this guy

----Sikkmod_V1.2--- (read description to see what it does). But in summary the mod adds/controls many different graphical features Bloom/HDR/Film Grain/ SSAO/ etc etc. it will be up to you to modify each setting to get your preferred look. However if you like how mine looks I can copy paste you my configuration no problem.

Those are all the mods I am using. Ingame settings all maxed out at 2560x1440 resolution with injected SMAA (not sure if works with OpenGL game but I just inject anyways lol).

Let me know how it works out and I'll help out if there's any problems.
Good luck.

EDIT:
There's way more graphics mods out there, but I find it goes "overkill" adding them all, they are nothing more than reskins of weapons/enemies/ or higher poly counts. IMO they kinda change the game too much at that point, but that's just me.
Cool. Thanks for your time and all the info!
Prometheus, those screenshots of a modded Doom 3 look awesome. It's been ages since I've played Doom 3, but I've never played it modded (At least not that I can recall anyway). I was contemplating getting Doom 3 BFG (since my Doom 3 disc unfortunately got scratched), but after seeing how much better the original + modded looks compared to BFG. I think I might just re-buy the original through steam and mod it.

You will be ok with 570 GTX I can run single or SLI the pure 3D on samsung 55 inch tv is crazy:)
My main issue is doom 3 seems to run like crap no matter what system im on. Ran fine back on my old 6800 GTX rig (back at launch) but any time Ive tried to play it since, it just seems to tank in FPS. Ive tried it on my 8800, my 285 and now im just wondering if these mods will change it for my 460. I dont want to buy the BFG as it looks like crap (and I still own my physical Doom 3 copy), but if it means it will actually run...

Anyway. My question is does this actually improve anything besides visuals?
