Doom 3 Startup

I have a problem I have Doom 3 and on the startup right after the opening the screen changes to the start then just shuts down and a box appears and it says windows has stopped working now i have Windows 8.1 after that it stops and i have to close the box and thats it doesn't tell me whats wrong. can anyone shed some light on this I have the package deal Doom 3 BFG so I can play 1 And 2 just not 3. Anyone let me know what I can do Thank You.

Try changing these values in the D3BFGConfig.cfg file, located in C:\Users\xxx\Saved Games\id Software\DOOM 3 BFG\base

set r_windowWidth "1920"
set r_windowY "0"
set r_windowX "0"
set r_customHeight "1080"
set r_customWidth "1920"
set r_fullscreen "-1"
set r_vidMode "-1"

Worked for me on Windows 8.1 Pro x64, and latest 340.52 nvidia drivers (GTX 780)
