sadly the PC version of Doom 3 BFG edition is essentialy incompatible with conrollers and does not work with big picture at all. i have tried it myself but no such luck. ID software has a tendancy to design the pc port first and after that port the pc port to console; this means they neglected to add controller support to the pc version (including big picture support)

I'm using a X-Box 360 controller with Doom 1, and 2 from the BGF set and it works fine. Did have a bit of trouble at first as I had an older joystick plugged it and a lot of my games tried to use that instead. When I unplugged it, anyhting worked great. (BTW: I can't comment on Doom 3 BFG edition as I haven't been able to get it to run, although the original ran fine. )
