The Storage Device you have selected does not have enough space [SOLVED]
Solution for me and another user has been to reinstall the game followed by a PC reboot.
This seems to solve this issue. If it does not, lets get going on trying to fix it!

-----

Playing this on this PC
Gtx 580 2 gig vid card.
Intel 2600k 3.4
8gigs of ram.
1tb hdd, with 400 gigs of space remaining.

Each time I try to play I get a message that says "The Storage Device you have selected does not have enough space to create a new save. Select a new Storage Device or select another game to overwrite?"

Please help :(

It's already installed. This is when I'm trying to start a new game. Installed on my D drive though. My C drive is my SSD with only 10 gigs left on it.

The destination for save files isn't always the same as the place of the game files.

You might not have enough space on your windows drive. Many game saves go to your windows drive where your user data folder is located. this holds the magic 'appdata' folder that has alot of settings and configs for everything related to your account, and program settings within it, for things like windows, various apps, and even SR4. There could be a program trying to make the save file because of a bungle with your appdata or the actual destination for the save files. I'd check on that.

Also, sometimes games have a built-in limit on the number of saves you can make. I'm not sure why they do this when it's not really necessary, but might be related to the in-game load screen being limited and not being able to show ALOT of entries at once, and you would have to scroll through them like crazy to find the one you want.

That doesn't exactly help out too much Shalmendo.
I have no way of checking any of that since I don't even know what you've asked of me.

EDIT: Either way, I have made more room on the C drive, 18 gigs of space and moved some stuff and have 350 on my D drive. If 18 gigs is not enough to save this game then...I'm concerned.

EDIT EDIT: I'm trying to play for the first time. I have 0 saves.

Well, if your tech expertise level isn't quite up to snuff, you can ask somone to help you via an app called TeamViewer, that will let them remote in and check your folders and various other details. I'd relegate this to somone you trust, because they will have access to your desktop and other things that are potentially privacy invasive, although you will be able to see everything they do and be able to cut them off if they do something out of bounds.

Theres nothing in Appdata for steam, saints row...
EITHER way. 18 gigs and 350 gigs should be enough to save.
Shalmendo 22. aug. 2013 kl. 15.46
It -should- be, yes.. But if it isn't, this might be a symptom of some other issue, like a read-only folder. I couldn't guess why the folder the saves go into would have ended up read-only but it's remotely possible.

The space you had before should have been adaquate but we don't quite know enough about the save-workings of SR4 to wager what little details are in there that would be causing that issue.

Personally I'd be troubleshooting it step by step to try and figure out what the problem is. Considering you have 0 saves, there obviously should be enough room regardless of limits programmed in for max amount of saves, etc. It could be the game is having a strange little fit due to the exact config and nature of your system, or there's something wrong with folders or even a bad line in the game's config telling it where save files go.

If someone could chime in and let us know where saves are going that should solve that problem.
Shalmendo 22. aug. 2013 kl. 15.51
Doing a quick google search doesn't reveal alot of information as of yet. But I imagine it's similiar to SR3's save location. A quick search on that shows it's probably somewhere in the userdata folder in Steam's primary library location.

I'm reinstalling now just to make sure its not that. I saw no save folders when I still had it though.
Shalmendo 22. aug. 2013 kl. 15.53
Reinstalling is a good option to make sure something didn't get borked. Steam tries to prevent it, but it still happens. (I've had some experience with this). Restarting your PC has a slim chance of making a difference. I'm not sure what else to suggest. I'm allready having one of those game stopping bugs on co-op myself in one of those later missions and haven't found a solution for that either. lol.

You should check and see where the saves are at then. Unless you manage yours differently.
Shalmendo 22. aug. 2013 kl. 15.55
Unfortunately I do. I keep things in seperate drives to minimize the chance of a crash or virus, etc, impacting data I'd rather not lose easily.

Also having this problem, reinstalling now.

As long as I'm not the only one, I'm happy.
Shalmendo 22. aug. 2013 kl. 16.01
I'm absoloutely positive you aren't the only one. SR4 is pretty buggy but only in certain circumstances, so it's difficult to track the bugs down.

In regards to the problem, a google search seems to suggest that you restart Steam, your PC, and verify files alongside that, as initial first aid.
