Rocksmith Real Tone Cable problem - popped like a fuse.
Has anyone had a problem with their cable not working after plugging into a bass with an 18 volt preamp? i.e EMG BQC, BTS, Aggie, Bart, etc...

I have a Spector Euro4LX Ian Hill sig model that runs an EMG BQC preamp at 18 volts.
I put fresh batteries in and the cable stopped working as soon as I tried to use it.

The computer and game know the cable is there but, no sound comes through.
Cant play or tune up. The "Sound Recorder" in widows doesn't see a signal, either.
If I unplug the cable while the game is on, the game will tell me that the cable has come unplugged and the computer tells me, as well.

The instructions clearly state that the cable is meant to only be plugged into your guitar. Your amp killed it. :cgpout:
What?
I don't follow your comment.
The cable is USB, The amp is 1/4" ... Where exactly did I say anything about an amp...?
bro my cable dosent work ither and its brand new litterly i just got this pc version in the mail today on 12/30/2014 so wtf.
You have that sound device set as the default Recording Device in Windows Playback and Recording settings; YES?

The Rocksmith Real Tone Cable works with my active pups (EMG JH Set) on my ESP M-II guitar fine. However, never attempted it with a preamp voltage going through it. You normally just connect the guitar directly (if that's what your doing or not?).

Start > Control Panel > Sound

Under the Recording tab, does it show the Rocksmith USB when connected? If not, it might be driver issues or damage. Else 'Set Default' to it, then try the sound recorder on that to check if a signal is coming through.
I sent the cable to UBIsoft and they said it was bad and sent me a new one. so far, so good.

The bass has an EMG brand BTS model onboard preamp running at 18vdc not 9vdc like most. Yes, I'm plugging the TTC into the bass like a normal guitar cable. don't think there's any other way to do it.

Anyone else running a bass with an 18 volt OBP ?
The voltage of the preamp should not matter. It's higher for granting better headroom when using extrem sounds. The output of your bass should be the same as with a 9V preamp. RS works fine with active pickups, I use my MusicMan without problems (guitar though). Glad you got a new cable. Does it work?
I forgot about this thread..
I got a new cable. RS Techs said mine was defective, got a free replacement.
I've been using it since Jan with no problems.
I am using it with the
Spector NS2 US HAZ 9v,
Spector NS2J EMG BTS 18 volt,
Spector Euro5LX Alex Webster EMG BQC 18Volt,
Spector Euro4LX BTS 9V...
All 4 work great with the game.
