Is this game controller compatible?

I like steam, I got the game off of it. It is a good experience I downloaded Max Payne 3. I love the graphics and they are PlayStation 3 graphic quality. I brought a controller for my windows 8. I tried using my controller and it does not work. Why doesn't it work and is there something that I am doing that is keeping my controller from working? I brought a steel series controller. I thought I read that this game is controller usable. It is impossible to play with a keyboard having to memorize every control on the keyboard. Also using the mouse making sharp turns while shooting the bad guys. What can I do? I am highly disappointed. Is there any help that you guys on here can give me? Thank you very much.

Dont buy it...steam don't have cd keys for all. I buy it, but i can't play it!

Does a regular x-box controller work that I already have for my x-box with cord or do I need to buy a windows xbox controller with an adapter? If I need to buy an x-box controller with an adapter can I use a x-box controller that I already have with my x-box and buy the adapter piece off amazon seperately? What EXACTLY do I have to do?

the graphics are ps3 quality? they are a lot better if you max them out. plus you can use a much higher resolution

by using a mouse and not a controller^^ i like to use controllers for platformers a some other genres, but shooters? just pratices some more with, you will soon shoot a lot better.
if it is too hard you can take a look at the aim assist options.
you can change the keybinds at any time btw, just mentioning it since you seem new to pc gaming.
another thing, get a decent mouse, one designed for gaming perhaps.

I use the X-box controller. I am new to PC, I want to get better but I need to learn the controls. It has been awhile since I owned a game console and never really played game on PC. Got any tips?
