100% Fix For "Failed To Contact Key Server" [Confirmed & Tested]
Alright everyone, I just want to start by saying Rockstar is a bunch of lazy idiots who don't care about the PC community. Yes they make great games, but they are terrible developers and should feel ashamed about how terrible there support is, especially so when considering the amount of money that their company is worth. So no excuses, you pieces of ♥♥♥♥ who work at Rockstar!

Now that I got that out of my system, I have a fix for all of you. I spent 20 hours trying to get my game to work, and although I usually don't post on the forums, I felt it was my duty to help all of you.

First off, go to your steam folder and open the "MP3_Installers" folder, this folder contains all of the programs that you need to install in order to get Max Payne to work. Install "Social Club v1.1.0.6 Setup", "vcredist_x86", and "DXSETUP". However, DO NOT RUN the "SteamUninstaller" executeble.

After that go to the main game folder "Max Payne 3" and create a text file. Name it "steam_appid" and inside the text file write "204100". Save it and you're all done!

Now here is the most important thing, launch the game from the game directory (MaxPayne3.exe) and NOT FROM STEAM. Everything should load up fine, once it launches press "Shift+Tab" or whatever you use to open your steam overlay, click the CDKey, and all your keys will be shown. After that, when Social Club prompts you for the key, enter it and click accept.

Here is how my game folder looks incase any of you are having difficulties: http://gyazo.com/2479f1a226b933bc1259aa44e15ec08c

Your game will now be working, with no dumb errors, and this is all without the help of Rockstar Games. I hope this works for all of you, and have fun playing! :)

Oh and make sure you tell Rockstar to get their ♥♥♥♥ in check, and to actually support the largest gaming community.

What about those of us who purchased the complete pack with DLC? I don't want to ♥♥♥♥ myself from playing all of the content when this issue is "officially" fixed.

I am one of those people who bought the complete edition, and have all of the DLC. This in no way will affect anything, or screw up your game, and to be quite honest, I'm sure the DLC will work as well.

Okay, well assuming that is the case going forward, thank you for this info! Also BTW, how do you "launch from directory" and not steam? Does that mean just running the .exe in the file?

Yes, it is as simple as that. Just the .exe from the game folder. I am glad I can help :).

This method worked for me! I am currently in the in-game Steam overlay, as I write this msg. For good measure, I chose to activate all of my DLC codes manually as well, using the in-game store (just press Y to enter an activation code). The response was positive, each code activated the appropriate DLC. Thanks again!
Using the method posted here, causes a instant crash on startup for most people. This one is working.

Find the drive you have your steam library installed, it should be something like.

D:\Games\SteamLibrary\SteamApps\common\MaxPayne3\MP3_Installers
