Play as the pope

I think that it's impossible. But I think you can have the pope as a vassal.

It's technicaly impossible to play as the pope for one main reason. Theocracies are NOT PLAYABLE. Even if say, your heir was the pope, he was of your dynasty and you die... i believe the game will put a new pope in power or just end it. the reason i say this is because, while your heir can be a bishop once he inherits he's automaticly recast as a noble/baron. So i belive there's failsafes against becoming pope unless you hack a save

You can't play as Holy orders, Bishrobics or the Papacy. They are theocracies, and the game is about you creating your dynasty ;)

You can play as the Pope by going into your saved game files and changing your character to the Pope.

Hm, I am going to use the "play ####" console command to try it out, because you can play as both Caliphs(Sunni and Shia popes), just as you can play as Holy Orders and Mercenary Bands(However Mercenary Bands seem to dissolve when I take them, unlike Holy Orders which I remain the Hochmeister of).

I had a long post for this, but lost it when trying to link screenshots of playing as the Pope. So, the short version is yes, it works, and it has features unique to playing the Pope, but it seems to be unfinished. You can do it by typing charinfo 1 in console then mouse over the current Pope(or any character, works for them all as long as they have territory), then type into console play #### (their character id that showed up when you moused over them.

You can also become pope quite legal. Without using the console.
Become an emperor. Wait for the Vatican to have existed for 100 years.
Then conquer the pope's territories and simply take the title as it is now bound to the land ;)

If you are catholic, then your character can eventually be nominated to become the next pope.

thanks it works but it ends the game when i play as the pope :S

If the papacy owns latium for long enough it will become de jure "The Papacy" which means you will be able to usurp the pope's title.

I haven't actually tried this though, so I don't know if it would work.
