My God fix the font!
This game is unplayable on any of my laptops/tablets. All you non helping mofos with huge screens need not respond because you all seem incapable of understanding that this is a real problem.

How can this be the best grand strategy game in the world if your font/gui doesn't scale properly and your troll fanboys run off the people needing help to fix this problem.

Jesus Christ reading the responses is like something out of xbox live.

Non helping Mofo's with huge screens?, I will help you even tho I consider your comment to be rude so here it is

(Quoting Panteraleap)

Look for the Set Custom Text Size (DPI) option in Windows' display settings. It opens a dialog box when you click it, and at the bottom, there's a checkbox that says "Use Windows XP style DPI scaling". Uncheck it, click OK, then click Apply.

Play the game in windowed mode and you'll notice the window size is bigger than the pixels/resolution you set it at. For example, if the game is set at 1366x768, its window will be ~1600x960. More importantly, all the text will be more readable without being distorted.

Detailed info for the curious:

When the "Windows XP style DPI scaling" option is checked, programs only get their text and menu bars enlarged; everything else they have stay normal sized. This works fine for text editors, internet browsers, and such, but does nothing for games.

(End Quote)

Hopefully that can help and remember not everyone is a jerk and trolls and hates on people so try not to become one yourself. Have a nice day :) Also instead of making your own post u should have added to the first convo about the font size, instead of making a new post about it.

You're a good guy, Duel. I don't have the information, but, if I did, based on the attitude presented in the OP, I'd probably not have shared it. :D

My condolences on your attitude, OP. It's gotta be a huge disability in life. ;-)

@DuelPwn,

FYI there have been other responses to font problem threads which consist mostly of "get glasses u r stoopid". The OP isn't being rude, they are reflecting accurately the unhelpful nature of these other responses and yes, the troll fanboys who post them. Other than taking the Lord's name in vain there isn't anything insulting or rude in what the OP wrote: it is all strictly accurate. If people are insulted by the truth, don't yell at the mirror. Are you familiar with the story of the Emperor who had no clothes? The Emperor is riding around naked and a little boy yells out that he has no clothes on; all the courtiers yell at the boy for being rude. You're behaving like a courtier, but the OP is just representing the situation honestly and truthfully.

Yours is quite possibly the most genuinely helpful response on the forum. I commend you on your helpfulness and helpfully suggest that being a little less thin-skinned is probably a useful trait on the Interwebs, especially when a comment is clearly not directed at you (unless you aspire to troll fanboydom?)

Creating a new thread was obviously a good decision by the OP, as they got an answer intended to be reasonably helpful. The larger font size conversation has become mired in somewhat tangential discussions and it's quite likely the OP's question would have become lost in the jabber. If this forum were properly moderated, that thread would be killed as unhelpful to the stated purpose of the thread.

=(e)= -DuelPwn-: It is quite possible that the original poster is a Linux user. Your hacky workaround does not work for us. This needs to be fixed in the game itself.

As for the original posters attitude, it's quite understandable when people post 'works for me' and/or keep posting the same workaround that doesn't apply to your desktop.

Thanks but those work arounds don't work for me,hence my rant. Also reducing the resolution is a pretty crappy thing to have to do to play the game!

Anyway I found font mod here. http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?712799-MOD-CKII-UI-Font-Mod

Thanks for trying though. BTW my post was from reading stuff like .......

looks fine for me. leard to see. also you can mod it

Vince Aug 9, 2013 @ 11:22am
I'm skipping due to this. If after all the Crusader Kings threads about this the devs can't make any effort I'll just leave it.

bye

Then don't play with a laptop screen, problem solved.

w.gschwendtner [has Europa Universalis IV] Aug 9, 2013 @ 11:57am
Have you heard of that new thing? I think "glasses" is what they call it.

[Q]uik [has Europa Universalis IV] Aug 10, 2013 @ 10:24am
I have NEVER had a problem with font size - heck font size is fine on even Victoria Revolutions, which supports 1200x800 pixels ~~

I don't at all see how it is an issue

So yah. I think my OP is justified.

Polygon Dagon Sep 15, 2013 @ 3:42am
Also here's a whole thread of people claiming that the whole tiny gui/font issue was just a small issue even though those with the problem claimed it made the game unplayable and still yet others refused to buy the game because of the font issue.

http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?625197-Clauswitz-Engine-and-Dynamic-Font-Sizes-An-issue-that-really-needs-to-be-addressed/page9&s=b554e23a3687c93a8f95e3f67546773a

If you can't understand where we are coming from after all this data I don't know what to tell ya.
Nef Sep 15, 2013 @ 4:19am
Why are you raging on these forums about it though? Paradox rarely if ever check this board. It sounds like you want Paradox to fix this, so raging at random Steam players won't really help. Go post a rant on Paradox forums, it may get more attention from the developers. Also why are you bashing people on Crusader Kings forum for stuff said by other people on EU4 forum?
Polygon Dagon Sep 15, 2013 @ 4:55am
Exposure is exposure. You play a steam game with integrated forums, ya use the forums ta air ya grievances and alert other gamers to the issue. It's clear that no matter what forum that is used Paradox doesn't care anyway.

It doesn't matter which forum you goto it's the same copy and paste responses.
EU4 and CK2 both use the Clausewitz engine so the 2 games have the same problem. Did you even click the link?

Also I wasn't bashing CK2 forum members. I was bashing unhelpful big monitor not actually understanding the problem etc etc mofos in general. If u couldn't tell I even posted a link from the official forums, so it should be OBVIOUS I was talking about non understanding people in general.

Why is that not obvious?

So thanks for adding to the discussion. I helped by raising the issue and actually providing a work in progress fix. You helped by telling me to go rant on another forum? Because you think I'm raging at "random steam players?"

lol. Did you read what that other dude or dudette posted? Probably not. You didn't even click the 2nd link I gave where you would see eu/ck font issue in the same thread on the official forums.
3vi1 Sep 15, 2013 @ 5:12am
Hey Polygon, can you post the mod info that you linked from the Paradox forum? The thread can't be read without creating an account, which I think is pretty bad - since it stops search engines from indexing the posts and pointing us to our solutions.

I'm not too keen on creating yet another account on yet another forum if the fix is Windows-only.

Thanks in advance!

[MOD] CKII UI Font Mod

Very simple mod, increases the size of all the game's fonts, including tooltips. I'm using this on a 24" monitor 1920x1080 native resolution and finally I can play the game without bleeding my eyes out!
There are some other things I would like to change, like the small traits icons, maybe in a future version If I can get the game to not CTD everytime I change something!

Before:

Installation instructions:
Download the file and extract all contents into the mod folder: C:\Users\username\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings II\mod or wherever you have your documents folder.

Credit:
Credit goes to Imperator07 for the idea and his EUIV: bigger tooltip font mod wich inspired me to create this mod.

Thank you very much, Polygon Dagon! You were the only actual helpful person in any of these threads.

Linux Users, the above mod will work fo us too, but here's what you have to do t make it work:

First download the UI font mod linked above.

Extract the files into "~/Documents/Paradox Interactive/Crusader Kings II", then rename the new "CKII UI Font Mod" to "mod". This gives you a "mod" directory with the .mod file, gfx and interface directories directly within it.

The game does not use mods by default, and on Linux there is no launcher screen that allows you to enable them. To get around this, right click CKII from your library and select Properties. From that dialog, select "Set Launch Options...".

Modify the launch options to be "%command% -mod=mod/CKII_UI_Font_Mod.mod", or if you use bumblebee on your laptop like me "optirun -b primus %command% -mod=mod/CKII_UI_Font_Mod.mod". Click okay and exit the properties window.

Thats it! The game should now launch with actually readable fonts! Thanks again to Polygon Dagon for linking the mod info.
Nef Sep 15, 2013 @ 7:27am
I'm confused by your response, I was actually trying to be helpful and I was genuinely confused. I'm one of those 'big monitor mofos' who doesn't help. Why don't I help? Because I don't know how! And even if I did know how to help, when someone did post a helpful response you said it wasn't good enough and that developers should fix it! How is shouting at me making developers fix it?

EDIT: sorry, it wasn't Polygon Dragon who said that, but 3vi1.

What? What are you referring to? Where did I "shout" at you (to whom I've never once responded), or anyone?

I didn't say the developers should fix it (though they should), I said there needed to be an in-game fix (a mod fits that bill), because the "helpful" response you mention did not in any way apply to my system/configuration and was therefore not helpful at all.

I'm sorry. By the way, I didn't mean you were shouting, 3vi1, I was referring to Polygon's reply to me earlier.

I referred to his comments as a rant simply because he referred to his own words as a rant. I wasn't trying to be insulting!

The only reason I posted was because what I saw here was: someone complaining about the game's UI, and asking why Paradox don't fix it, while people trying to help were called unhelpful. I was confused by all this. I didn't mean any insult, sorry for any offense caused.
