Game over when first leader dies
Every time I play a republic, I lose when my first character dies (I tried playing the family that is leader in the beginning of the game and the ones that are not leader and in both case as soon as my first character dies the game is over).

Is there a way to fix this?

Get married and have heirs.

I have heirs.. they inherit , rule for 1 day and the game is over

I suggest that you buy the ruler customizer (if you haven't already,) and pretty much max out your fertility; there are several ways to do this, but all of them include having to choose being weak, excommunicated.. stuff like that. If you can't afford the ruler customizer ATM, then get married as quickly as possible and to anyone possible. Even a dull old courtier would do (they'll also probably accept your request with little to no hassle). Wait, you have heirs?

Yes I do and as soon as they inherit my Mansion (I know that I lose the leadership of the republic) the game is over

If you have kids then the only thing I can think of is that they're not of your dynasty. You're doing normal marriages right?

I just tested this out and have been able to replicate it several times. I'm gonna report it on the bug forums.

I'm totaly sure they are my kids and married to some girl from my court (in one of the three or four time I tried to play republic) and thank you (I should have put that there first but I hoped that it had already happened to someone and the way to correct this was known... althought I didn't find anything on that)

I'll let you know if they tell me anything.

The odd thing is the message says that I lost my last county, though I loaded up as a patrician and never held a county, but when my son took over the house it insisted that I lost my last county and the game ended. I also tried as Amalfi and successfully went from doge to my son becoming a patrician but then when his brother took over the game told me that I lost.

Does this mean we shouldn't start any new games as republics? I'm frustrated with the save-game issues, but it'll really suck if new games are f***ed now, too.

Maybe this is a plot to shuffle us all from CK2 to EU4? :-)

ahahah maybe and that is exactly my problem!

@Prestogizmo: Not really sure, the problem might be contained to a few users, or it might affect all users. I'd say at this point, it's safe, but that you're doing it at your own risk.

Thanks for responding, HC517! I'll stick away from them until I see it's fixed. It's not worth the frustration if I know to avoid it. :)

I hope Paradox is not that nefarious. It's not like they're owned by Halliburton or anything. Or are they...? *pinky to side of mouth*

I would totaly stop playing their games if the bugs were made for that purpose ;)

Yeah. Me, too.

We're in luck that they seem to be great guys, even if the EUIV release fubared my saved games. ;)
