How do you end/get rid of a theocracy?
Hello. I've been playing the Byzantines and have become quite successful restoring the Roman empire, until I suddenly recieve a game over in 1252. After investigaing, one of my vassals had (somehow) created the"Monothelite Patriarchy" and currently holds that title with me as his heir. When he dies I immediately inherit the title, become prince-bishop, and lose the game due to becoming a theocracy. I really don't want to start over; I've put to much time into this. Any suggestions?

Nah, the guy is a priest - no kids. I tried fiddling with the situation and played as my heir, assassinated my dad (former-self), but became the new heir to that drasted theocracy. Still trying to fix it though. All suggestions are appreciated :)

On a side note, there should be a thread exclusively discussing how to deal with theocracies. I've noticed France frequently manages to make itself one and is a pain to interact as it no longer has heirs to be married to (there's just the king-bishop) and therefore is difficult to forge an alliance or to get a cassus-belli on it. Theres just no diplomacy left - peaceful or aggressive. It just kills a part of the game.

Can you revoke one of the barony titles in the province you are the prince bishop of? Try that if its possible and then right click on your church state and give the title away to someone in your court.

if you're desperate, you could always use console commands to give the county or whatever in question to anyone you want... it might fix the sittuation.

as it looks like a bug, just use console to fix it. normally you would get rid of a theocracy the same way you create new republics and so, granting the county title to the baron or major below it.
