[Linux] Cross-platform multiplayer
Tried playing this via multiplayer with friends. They have Windows systems, I primarily use Linux. The Windows versions had no problem connecting to each other, but the Linux version would complain that the server has a different game version. Both the version number and checksum are the same in Windows and Linux. I proceeded to install this on backup Windows laptop, and then the game connected without problem. Is this a known bug? Are some DLC not recognized on Linux? Is cross-platform play supported?

Same here, really annoying. And my friend can't even find the game when he tries to join me.

Asked the same thing on the Paradox forums, turns out it's a known problem. No info on any workarounds or when will this issue be officially fixed. So it's back to Windows for now :/

same here; one thing i noticed is that I cannot login to meta server (although i registered the game on the paradox website). it shows a version mismatch, just as directly connecting to the host.
Does the meta server work for you?
btw, can you post a link to the paradox forums thread?

yeah. juuuuuuuuuust great. linux-only multiplayer games work. solves the problem for me ;)
apparently the wrong version checking in the linux version results only in a correct match when connecting to another linux-hosted game.

Sure, here's the link to the thread I was pointed to:

Never tried using the meta server, I generally play with friends via VPN.

and I just ran into the next problem... the game frequently goes out of sync; loading existing multiplayer savegames does only work after manually sending the savegame to my friends.
does this affect you, too?

Don't know yet - I've switched to Windows for the time being (that is untill this problem is fixed). I did encounter one case of game going out of sync (on Windows, as previously stated) after about 2 hours of play. The savegame was sent autmatically upon restarting the server and me joining it.

I just tried the same. My friends use Windows, I'm playing with Linux. If they host, it says I got the wrong version and if I host they can't find the game.
We would be very happy if somebody could take care about this problem.
Thank you
Greets

Didn't find this in the patch notes, but after patch 1.092 (checksum ICBN) multiplatform multiplayer seems to be working.
Edit: found mention of multiplatform multiplayer: there are still known bugs, they expect to have a full fix on patch 1.10

I can confirm that connecting works now... however, sync errors are still frequent

sorry to necro this, but it is important and I need to know if this problem still exists before buying.

No and yes. We've since started many multiplayer games of Crusader Kings 2 with me playing on Linux and my friends using Windows. The game would occasionally go out of sync (with a message to all players stating that this has happened), however all we had to do then was for the host to save, quit and create a new multiplayer game using that save. That was a few patches ago (we've switched to Stellaris since it came out).

thanks for the answer. if its not every minute I can deal with it.
