If you're looking for something open world though, this probably isn't going to be your best choice. It's pretty linear except for the fact that each outdoor zone is "open" (but each is fairly small).
As the game progresses, there is far far less of it as you are allowed more and more freedom to kill as you choose (or progress or whatever). I honestly think it's supposed to be another reinforcement of the idea that you're becoming a badass, the Lara Croft from all the other games where she's tough as opposed to the start of this game where she's inexperienced.
Also, no there is nothing open world about this game at all. It is hyper-linear. Having said that, it is the best linear game I've played in a long time. It is constantly exciting and has amazing detail. It is well paced, I can't remember any point of the game I didn't like or think "Man, this part is boring".
Honestly if you dont' want Uncharted and even Witcher put you off, I'd avoid this game. It is very comparable to Uncharted series (although imo it's far better as well).
Second, I don't think QTE's were "invented" to level the playing field. You aren't better than anyone else for disliking them, and you come across as kind of an arrogant prick. No offense...
Third, this is nothing like Skyrim. Watching a single video of the game would've clarified that.
Fourth, Uncharted is awesome. You would be so lucky to have access to it on the PC.
Seconded. It's a really great game for what it is but if this style of game isn't for you then don't get it.
And seriously, what's up with everyone ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ comparing this game to skyrim? That's like comparing call of duty to the sims. I've been seeing too many threads like this. Someone also mentioned that the game needed an auto-run key. I lol'd.
The ONLY reason for QTE's is to get around a weak machine, it LEVELS the hardware Playing field.
Which is cool, as long as I am not tricked into another max payne 3 movie.
PS Skyrim and Dragons Age Origins both did fine without qte's......
Well I haven't played uncharted. But I really like this game. If you liked Arkham Asylum you might like this for the stealth element. (Even though the stealh kills in this are absolutely awful.)
Another thing I liked is that the game seems seemless. Like you don't see many loading screens and you don't even realize when it quivksaves. I can't ever tell when a good place to stop playing is. lol. To summarize, good 3rd person shooter combat, interesting and fun stealth element, a couple of puzzles, and some exploration if you wanan 100%. Don't go expecting some hard platformer though, the platforming is actually really easy, but I like that. The platforming is just filler really. It helps move along the story, so you can get to the more challenging parts. It also provides some nice cooldown time.
No, the only reason for QTE's is to circumvent a control limitation. Basically, consoles have roughly 16 buttons and keyboards have roughly 50. Neither of these platforms can accomodate for some of the things game developers attempt to implement for dramatic purposes.
Initially QTE's were developed to allow developers to put interesting sequences into their games that don't fit within their carefully crafted control system. They've since been abused to cheat through things we could have done with their regular control system but would have been slightly difficult to implement.
At no point were QTE's ever designed to accomodate for weak hardware. There's simply no part of a QTE that accomplishes this. Like, at all. They typically make use of close up shots of the player, which means using the cinematic part of the engine, which means requiring more power to generate than usual.
