If your an NVIDIA user, might want to shelf this game for a little bit
I've tried everything. I've installed the beta drivers, every combination of settnigs, and every suggestion from the user forums, and STILL, this game is just unplayable. I get to certain parts and it just turns into a giant kaleidoscope and then crashes. When it actually runs, it looks amazing but...that's kind of rare. I really appreciate all the support from other users in the forums but this is my two-cents. If you have a high end NVIDIA card, just wait. Don't spend your money just yet. There will be patches. I went to the Square Enix website and the TressFX setting isn't even available for NVIDIA yet...only ATI. In the NVIDIA settings, FXAA isn't supported nor is Anti-aliasing. I tried turning off all those features completely and it still crashed like crazy. I realize it's a quirky title at best right now but...I can't stress it enough, if you have a high end system and are running NVIDIA...just wait a bit before you buy this game. You won't be happy.

It's running pretty perfectly on my GTX 690 once i turned off tesselation & TressFX. I can wait for updates to fix thoes i'm in no big rush.
Good thing ATI has never let me down in a game that had Nvidia slaped in the front of it...Nvidia tried to restrict ATI users in borderlands 2 to not have the ability to use physx but we all know you can enable it on ATI cards through changing the .ini files.. My point is Nvidia only cares about killing ATI completely even at the cost of the people that play these games. Im sure it wont take too long for Nvidia to fix there problem with this game for you guys. Green team will never have my $$.

Kind of what I'm thinking too. I shut both of those off...but dangit...I really want to see those things working. Not that it makes a huge difference in gameplay, but it just enhances the look of the game so much! I'm going to just wait it out. I'm sure a fix is on the way. Hell, the game just came out two days ago! ;-)

I've had both cards in the past...never thought there was too much difference. Some games run better on NVIDIA and some better on ATI but honestly, it's never been a major issue. I just think it's odd for a devoloper to favor one over the other. Anyway, I'm sure the folks at NVIDIA will fix it soon...I hope....can't really ask for your money back on a steam pre-purchase.

No issues here, but I'm sure it'll be fixed in a matter of days.

This isn't AMD we're talking about here. I remember their Skyrim and Saints Row The Third issues took a good month each to fix.
LOL...good point. I'm trying to just be patient but DAMMIT...I wanna play this game so badly!!! hahaha
This pretty much covers the issue:
"Nvidia released a new beta version of their GeForce driver this week, once again squeezing more incremental improvements from a bunch of games, both new and old. But one prominent release was missing from the list of tweaks: Tomb Raider. Lara's latest outing may continue Square Enix's quality porting form, but, as Chris notes in his settings overview, GeForce cards attempting to use AMD's new fancy hair tech TressFX suffer a drastic performance hit.

In the comments for the beta update post, Nvidia's Andrew Burnes explains the problem and apologises to GeForce owners. "We are aware of performance and stability issues with GeForce GPUs running Tomb Raider with maximum settings," he writes. "Unfortunately, NVIDIA didn’t receive final game code until this past weekend which substantially decreased stability, image quality and performance over a build we were previously provided. We are working closely with Crystal Dynamics to address and resolve all game issues as quickly as possible."

Burnes also notes that Nvidia can't magic up a fix without some help from Crystal Dynamics. "The developer will need to make code changes on their end to fix the issues on GeForce GPUs as well. As a result, we recommend you do not test Tomb Raider until all of the above issues have been resolved."

"In the meantime, we would like to apologize to GeForce users that are not able to have a great experience playing Tomb Raider, as they have come to expect with all of their favorite PC games."

I run the game perfectly on a
Core i 5 2500k
8gb ram
Geforce 560 1gb (Using the new 314.14 Beta drivers)
and installed in a SSD (no idea if this makes a difference lol) I had one crash in the 7hs i played yesterday. Somethimes (like every 1-2hs) i have a little lag but else this game is running perfectly. Everything on Max besides Hair of course lol.

The game has hanged on me for about 5 seconds once or twice, but otherwise, everything ticked up (except the damnedable Tressfx), 1080p, about 30-40 fps (can dip into 20's in hubs), on a GTX 570 with the latest beta drivers.

AMD 1100T 3.3-3.7 ghz
GTX 570
16 gigs of DDR3 ram
Win7

How many times do we have to say this. USE DRIVER 310.90 and the game works fine! Doesn't take long to find this out on the many many many threads about it on here -.-

Sorry having a ♥♥♥♥ day at work.

Just roll back the driver and you will be fine until they fix it.
Salty Wagyu 7 marca 2013 o 3:53
It doesn't work fine on 310.90 drivers, tesselation or not. Display Driver still stops responding regardless. Giving up as well until Square/Nvidia sort it out.

Here's a strange thought, roll back your drivers to the ones that don't have issues with Tomb Raider? TressFX slow me down when zoomed in close (aiming, quicktime events) but otherwise I can play fine. I turn that off (but leave tesselation on) and I can play the game with zero issues.

This is on a GTX 560.

The only issue I am having with my GTX 660ti is that I cannot run the game in 1080 fullscreen. I get a max of of 720 unless I play in windowed. Even then, the difference in graphical quality between ful and windowed is just outstanding. The game looks 10x better in windowed no matter what the res :/ Running in fullscreen is a dark, murky and generally unpleasant affair with a severe lack of lighting and other effects.
