If you can set the GPU, the 310m is faster than the Intel HD on that laptop. Upping your ram speed (like from ddr3 1066 to ddr3 1600) will give you a good speed increase as your GPU doesn't have its own RAM, it shares with the system.
In the BIOS somewhere or in the drivers (Maybe? I haven't used the 3xxm nvidia series) there will be a way to set how much ram your GPU have access to. Find out how to do this for your system and set it to max. The more RAM your GPU has the more textures it can hold.
The sad truth is you either have a laptop that is to bad to play the game or you have a prebuilt desktop that is pretty budget. If it is a laptop all you can do is up the RAM. If you have a desktop find out if you have a PCI-e 16x slot. If you have that slot check your power supply (The box with all the wires coming out of it) for 6 and 8 pin PCI-e connectors. If you have any, make note of it, and buy a new GPU. If you have a 6 pin PCI-e power connector then go buy yourself a AMD radeon HD 7850 or Nvidia 750ti. On sale it'll set you back like 100-150$, but you can actually play games again with that.
If you are a laptop person, and you buy budget laptops and want to play games let me reccomend picking up a recent AMD APU (A series) based laptop. You can get a new quadcore CPU/GPU combo (called an APU, it has its own graphics on the proc) laptop for about 500$. Less on sale. Now these aren't the best laptops, but if you are a cheap bastard that wants to game they can't be beat.
I hope this helps in some way.
In short, close ALL programs you're not using and that should make all the difference. :)
