Question from the Realm Team! What community stuff do you want to see?
Greetings!

I may not be familiar to you, but I am a member of the team that supports and operates Realm of the Mad God. As this team grows, one of our big goals is to form a closer relationship with the steam community.

So! My question for you is: What do you want to see? We run our regular events and engagement on our own forums, but on top of that we want to take advantage the special things that the steam community portal can do. Since you guys know this space the best - we are all ears. Should we do something with screenshots? Videos? Guides? What kind of events would you have fun with?

First off, welcome to the Steam Community, RF_Switch :)

More Communication
I would love to see more communication between the Realm team and community. Post updates and discuss your favorite things going on. Even though we can't use it via Steam, some announcement here would be nice when there is new content on the testing server. You've reached out to the Reddit community with AMAs and a lot of good discussion came out of it. There are some Steam specific issues that might be better understood if we could communicate with some of the programmers and engineers.

Steam Purchases
Have you considered selling a "Starter Pack" on Steam? With the Steam Community Overlay being somewhat of a mystery as far as debugging, would it be more reliable to use Steam's system of reporting a purchase on launch rather than normal purchases with the overlay? There have been countless users who simply could not make a purchase in-game because of Overlay issues. Money was missed, and I think this would provide a good alternative for the users affected.

Steam Store Page
This reminds me of the Steam Store page. It could really use an update. The description tell of a "new dungeon" that is far from new. All of the screenshots and the video are from early 2012. Perhaps you could host a competition for best RotMG trailer uploaded to the Game Hub? Most epic gameplay screenshot? Maybe even a lore contest to add some more interesting storyline to the page? Steam's rating system seems pretty solid, maybe you could let the community vote on which ones are best. :rbat:

Hey Firebat! Thanks for the warm welcome! Your points are strong and I agree with what you have brought up thus far. In addition, I had very similar ideas Event wise and will be looking to implement something very soon.

Sorry but the Avatar needs to go. It will never go away and It's really hard to fight. So we can't do any other events. Other than that the game is perfect :)

the king isnt too hard. its just too hard to advance through the phases, especially the eye one without large amounts of help. if you make that easier you could even give it more hp and damage, but we really need the phases to be easier for solo players or small groups.

Well, my opinion about this game is that this is just fantastic! I mean, it would be. I like indie, platformer games, and arcade, i mean, the REAL arcade games too. In my poinion you should remove the bug when you are moving something out of a sack then you go away or the sack disappeares and then the item stays on your game screen till client restart. Pretty annoying bug. You can find a picture of that in the screenshots section. To continue, i think you should adjust the damage of medusa. Her 100% to confuse you is simply srong weapon against everyone, and having huge damage on those projectiles what inflict you with confuse, is ridicoulus. I mean, they inflict a VERY painful confuse because RoTMG doesn't use the normal cinfuse (up=down, left=right, you know what i am talking about.) and getting one shot from that confuse, just being scared in that moment, you can't concentrate on what is the key what you need to press to be able to escape, walk into the other projectiles, and die. My best and very first necromancer run ended this way. I was very sad that point, and mad. At the confuse debuff, it is simply so annoying for me, it caused so much death for my good runs, i hope you can lower the duration of that confuse or reduce the damage of those projectiles. I really like this game, but when i died of that medusa confuse, i stopped playing this game for 6 months just because i was so mad at the debuff, please, adjust the medusa gods confuse and/or damage. Please

they dont confuse. they only deal damage.

This could be a great idea as well. This one would require the art team to come up with some high resolution card images/backgrounds and low res emoticons such as :gravestone:. Your team submits the artwork and Steam handles everything from there. The cards, backgrounds, and items can be sold on the Steam Community Market which gives the developer an easy 10% cut. You don't even have to offer support for any of it. Just redirect support claims to the Steam Trading Card FAQ. This is a win-win situation.
