SFM not working at all!

So I recently got SFM because I wanted to begin making amatuer movies. The first time I ran it no problem; then it all went down hill. The program began freezing, crashing, and just running very slow in general. Before you say it, I have looked at the system requirements and I either meet or have better than what it says. Any ideas here guys?

You might be overloading it with stuff? Turning of ambient occlusion in the settings menu often help at the slow part
